24th Annual Vista Lights Celebration Returns November 19

September 25, 2009

WHAT: The Vista’s signature open house kicks off the holiday season with a night of culture, cuisine and artistic performances. More than 60 galleries, shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues will open their doors for the evening to showcase holiday treasures, and this year expect a little more excitement from the annual tree lighting ceremony with Mayor Bob Coble. Dancers from contemporary dance group Unbound will participate in the ceremony.

WHEN: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday, November 19.

WHERE: The Congaree Vista, with pedestrian-only traffic on Gervais Street stretching from Assembly to Gadsden; and Lincoln and Park Streets between Senate and Lady.

TREE LIGHTING: The evening’s highlight is a tree-lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Gervais and Lincoln streets, featuring Mayor Bob Coble and other local dignitaries.

MORE: Attendees can get into the spirit of the season with horse-drawn carriage rides. Many restaurants will offer savory hors d’oeuvres to complement brews from Budweiser, which is sponsoring the event.

LAST SEASON: Vista Lights attendees saw a winter bridal show put on by Bella Vista and nibbled on free hors d’oeuvres from the Vista’s abundant art galleries, businesses and boutiques. Attendees also enjoyed horse-drawn carriage rides, music by the Southern Rose Band Organ and several other musicians and carolers, and many restaurants and galleries offered guests free sweet and savory hors d’oeuvres, wine and cider.

THIS SEASON: Attendees will enjoy carols by several local groups, and the entire Vista will be decorated in eco-friendly LED lights. Stay tuned to www.vistacolumbia.com as we finalize entertainment for 2008.
