SUMMARY:Come From Away at Town Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Even in the darkest moments\, people have an extraordinary capacity for kindness. On September 11\, 2001\, U.S. airspace was closed\, leaving thousands of passengers on 38 planes unexpectedly grounded in the small town of Gander\, Newfoundland. The result? A true story of strangers opening their homes\, and their hearts\, to people from around the world. Filled with stirring music\, humor and hope\, Come From Away is a reminder that\, even in times of tragedy\, kindness can unite. \nWhile audiences may come expecting a story about a day that changed the world\, what they discover is something much more personal. Come From Away celebrates the generosity\, resilience and unexpected friendships that blossomed over five unforgettable days. It is a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things\, not because they had to\, but because it was simply the right thing to do. \nTown Theatre is especially honored to open its 107th Season with this remarkable musical. At a time when the world often feels divided\, Come From Away reminds us of what can happen when compassion takes center stage. The production’s fast-paced storytelling\, inventive staging and soaring folk-inspired score invite audiences to laugh\, reflect and celebrate the enduring power of community. \nWhether you know the story by heart or are experiencing it for the first time\, Town Theatre’s Come From Away offers an unforgettable evening of theatre. \nCome From Away is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

SUMMARY:Lights on the Lake
DESCRIPTION:Connect Lake Greenwood is expanding its signature end-of-summer celebration this year\, adding a free family festival to the front end of the annual Lights on the Lake fireworks show. \nThe Lights on the Lake Family Festival and Fireworks is set for Saturday\, Sept. 5\, from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at Fellowship Camp & Conference Center\, 457 Camp Fellowship Road in Waterloo. Admission is free. The rain date is Sunday\, Sept. 6. \nThe festival is new for 2026. In past years\, the event centered on music and the fireworks display over the water. This year\, organizers have built several hours of family activities into the schedule before the first shell goes up\, with community exhibits\, food vendors and interactive experiences spread across the festival grounds. \nPlanned activities include face painting by local EMS personnel\, inflatable bounce and slide fun\, a street team from Big Air\, family games\, a touch-a-truck display featuring a fire truck and a patrol car\, DJ music and dancing led by Art Youngblood\, and a tribute honoring active-duty service members. College football will be shown on big screens under the pavilion. Food vendors will be on site\, and beer\, wine and mocktails will be available for purchase from Break on the Lake. \nThe fireworks are scheduled to launch at 8:45 p.m. over Lake Greenwood\, with the show simulcast through radio partners WSSL 100.5 and iHeartMedia in Greenville. \nGuests may arrive by land or by boat. Paid parking is available at Fellowship Camp & Conference Center\, and organizers said all parking proceeds go directly to the camp’s ministry. Both the shoreline and the water offer views of the display. \nBoaters are asked to follow all South Carolina boating laws\, observe the no-wake zone north of the railroad trestle\, follow directions from law enforcement and event personnel\, and operate their vessels responsibly. \nConnect Lake Greenwood is an all-volunteer organization of businesses\, residents and area chambers of commerce that works to promote Lake Greenwood and host events along its shoreline. The group has produced Lights on the Lake for more than a decade\, growing it into one of the Lakelands’ largest free community gatherings. \nFireworks costs continue to climb\, and the organization is accepting donations at four levels: Sparkler at $50\, Firecracker at $100\, Roman Candle at $150 and BOOM! at $200 and above. Every donor is entered to win prizes from participating local businesses. \nThis year’s sunset sponsors are Gunnells Marine and Shonna Lee with Acopia Home Loans. Lake life sponsors include Rush Heating & Air\, Self Regional Healthcare and Lakelands Realty. Community sponsors are Break on the Lake and Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission. Friends of Lights on the Lake include Atkins Data & Communications\, Chaney Heating & Air\, Duke Energy\, Fish Bonz General Store & Tackle\, Olde Eight\, Pellegrino Ventures\, Sadler-Hughes Apothecary and Town & Country Property Management. \nMore information\, including weather updates and donation details\, is available at connectlakegreenwood.org or by email at connectlakegreenwood@gmail.com. Connect Lake Greenwood also posts updates on Facebook\, Instagram and X.

SUMMARY:Join Us for "Living with Cancer"
DESCRIPTION:We had a BIG night at our LCCA “Living with Cancer” support group! \nWe are so excited to celebrate our biggest turnout yet\, with 30 people in attendance! What started as a support group is growing into something so much more: a community where people can come together\, share\, listen\, learn\, and know they are not alone. \nWe were incredibly grateful to have two wonderful guest speakers\, India Jones and Carolyn Roberts\, who shared their time\, knowledge\, and encouragement about caregiving with our group. And a huge thank you to the Knights of Columbus for providing dinner for everyone! Your generosity helped make the evening extra special. \nAt the LCCA\, we are proud to provide assistance to those facing cancer\, but we are even more thankful that we are building a community of support\, friendship\, compassion\, and love for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer. \nThank you to everyone who came\, shared\, listened\, and helped make this night so meaningful. This is what community looks like. \nPlease consider joining us for our next meeting on September 10th\, when we will have Brenna Abrams from the Joanna Lions Club.
