A New Breed of Music Video
September 10, 2009COLUMBIA, SC – September 10, 2009 – Bill Grant is tired of traditional music videos. His response is to make something that he finds interesting. That’s where the boneshow was born. I saw a ‘Take Away Show’ (www.takeawayshows.net) for the song Nantes by a band called Beirut out of New York. I’d never heard of the song or the band before. But, I felt so involved watching the video that I felt like I knew them. It really knocked me off my feet, and I became obsessed with how to bring the idea to Columbia, says Grant.
The boneshow is a music video that takes the musician away from the typical environment – away from the stage, away from the bar, away from the studio. It allows the musician to connect directly with their fan. Other recording or performance media involve the musician performing for an audience of many. The boneshow is an opportunity for the musician to perform for each fan individually. It is simple and direct – one cut from beginning to end. As long as the musician can play the song, the boneshow will work.
Grant spends his days in traditional commercial video production with Grant Digital Media. Many of the techniques used in the boneshow come from Grant’s background in weddings and commercials. Grant said, I cut my teeth shooting weddings and trying to bring a new creative element to the weddings and commercial work I’ve done. The boneshow is my outlet. Other people write songs or paint – I do the boneshow.
Local artist Danielle Howle has recorded 9 boneshows with Bill and had this to say, WOW! These videos are … great! I see so much potential in general with the way you capture art and the way you captured me on The boneshow. I am so happy to work with you, man it was totally amazing… Forgive me if I am just overcome with happiness and joy about what you are doing .WOW!!!
