COLUMBIA, SC –  March 26, 2009 – The Better Business Bureau of Central SC and Charleston was joined the SC Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for a special awards and recognition dinner on Thursday, March 26.

The Torch Awards ceremony featured Holly Petraeus, Director of the BBB Military Line and wife of U.S. Central Commander General David Petraeus. The Military Line provides consumer education and advocacy for service members and their families.

The event celebrated the BBB’s commitment to ethical business practices and those businesses that support employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserves. This year’s awards also recognized several local businesses who have maintained BBB Accreditation for 25 years.

This is a great opportunity to show our appreciation to businesses committed to doing the right thing–and that includes support for our military families, said Jim Camp, President and CEO of the BBB of Central SC and Charleston. We’re thrilled to have Holly Petraeus speak at this event because she truly understands the difference a supportive employer can make to our men and women in uniform.

The Torch Awards began at 7 p.m. at Seawell’s Banquet & Reception Center in Columbia.
