Coming This Saturday – The Second Annual Congaree Bluegrass Festival

CAYCE, SC – September 29, 2009 – Cayce leaders hope to entice Midlands’ residents and bluegrass fans from around the state to attend its second-annual family-oriented event, the Congaree Bluegrass Festival. Presented by the City of Cayce and Love Chevrolet http://www.lovechevy.com/ , the daylong festival will bring some of the country’s top bluegrass performers to the Midlands on Saturday, October 3 at Granby Gardens Park, located in the City Hall Complex at 1800 12th Street.

This fun-filled family-oriented festival is free to the public. (Food and beverages will be available for sale).

Last year’s event drew a crowd of more than 3,500. 

This event will provide a full line-up of authentic and popular bluegrass music on the main stage featuring, The Dillard’s who portrayed The Darlings on “The Andy Griffith Show,”  Bill Wells and the Blue Ridge Mountain Grass, Darlene & the Reflections, Sugarloaf Mountain Boys, Easy Pickin’s, and Anne & Shelly and The UbgB.

Food vendors will be on hand all day serving up delicious homemade pork skins, corn dogs, hamburgers, barbeque, desserts, and ice cream – and more tasty treats!

There is no entry fee for the Banjo, Guitar, or Band Scramble Contests, however advanced registration is suggested.  All musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join the jamming sessions that will be held throughout the day.

Last year, the Children’s Area was a very popular attraction. This year, they are bringing in a new 20-foot giant slide and will again offer Panning for Gold, Haystack Search, and a Bounce House. 

The Cayce Historical Museum will provide free tours and special exhibits. 

This year, the “Koss Motor Sports Car Show and Sound Off” will be located at the top of the hill by the Cayce City Hall Building from 10 am – 4 pm.  The show will feature 125+ classes.  For entry information, visit www.kossmotorsports.com

Crafts will be available for sale this year.

The Congaree Bluegrass Festival supports God’s Helping Hands and the Harvest Hope Food Bank.  Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good and/or non-perishable food item to help stock their food pantries.
