American Eviction: Why a Nation of Renters Can’t Make Rent

June 6, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Join Richland Library, the Central Carolina Community Foundation (CCCF) and WNYC Studios for American Eviction: Why a Nation of Renters Can’t Make Rent from 6 – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 5 at our Main location. The event is free and open to the public.

Hear from On the Media radio host Brooke Gladstone and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and sociologist Matthew Desmond. They plan to provide an overview on what they’re calling “America’s eviction epidemic.”

Then Gladstone and Desmond transition to a panel discussion with Marvin Pendarvis, South Carolina State Representative, and Sue Berkowitz, Director of South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center. They want to cover specific challenges to Columbia, South Carolina, do a comparison with other cities across the nation and discuss possible solutions.
