Beethoven & Blue Jeans 2020
January 12 @ 3:00 pm
In honor of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the S.C. Philharmonic presents two performances of our annual Beethoven and Blue Jeans concert. Beethoven and Blue Jeans is one of the most popular Masterworks concerts every season where the audience and musicians are encouraged to wear jeans and casual attire. Pro tip for infrequent attendees – you can wear jeans to all of our concerts! Comfort is always encouraged.
We are proud to present this concert on January 11 and 12, 2020. In response to patron requests, the Sunday matinee show will allow more families and individuals to attend our Masterworks series.
Music Director Morihiko Nakahara programmed the beloved Beethoven symphonies, numbers five and six, along with a piece by contemporary composer Jessie Montgomery. “Records from a Vanishing City is a tone poem based on my own recollection of the music that surrounded me growing up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side in the 80s and 90s” says Montgomery.
Jessie Montgomery – Records from a Vanishing city
Beethoven – Symphony No. 6 in F Major “Pastorale”
Beethoven – Symphony No. 5 in C minor
