Charleston Jazz is committed to using the power of music to inspire, unite, and lift each other up during this time of uncertainty through our virtual performances. At the Charleston Jazz Academy, we have been virtually teaching 60+ students weekly, ensuring that our young students of jazz don’t miss a beat. We are learning, listening, experimenting, improvising, and adapting to ensure Charleston Jazz and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra will be back on stage swinging as soon as possible. Singin’ Ella: Carmen Bradford with your CJO
Originally performed live on February 24, 2018
In 2017 the world celebrated the centennial of Ella Fitzgerald, ‘The First Lady of Song’. Her fame began as featured vocalist with the Chick Webb Orchestra and their recording of ‘A-Tisket, A-Tasket’. In 1942 she started her solo career and went on to record some of the most beloved jazz albums that highlighted her ‘scat singing’.
With performances on 4 Grammy Award-winnings albums, sold out concerts the world over, and 16 recordings, Carmen Bradford is considered to be one of the greatest jazz vocalists alive today. On this magical evening, Carmen will join the CJO to pay tribute to one of her musical heroes, Ella Fitzgerald.
“When I’m on stage, I feel at home.” –Ella Fitzgerald
