Words & Wine with Author Brian Boger
October 15 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Columbia author Brian Boger’s second novel, Champagne Friday, was recently selected as a semi-finalist in the 2019 William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition. Like his first novel, Southern Fate, the story is set in the great state of South Carolina and perfectly incorporates the genres of mystery, romance, history and humor. Brian was inspired to write Champagne Friday while visiting Aiken. As he enjoyed coffee one early morning at the New Moon Café, Brian observed an older gentleman paying for his cup of coffee with an aged one hundred-dollar bill. And so the story of Hugh Buncombe and The Champagners, a group of middle-aged, life affirming, Champagne sipping folks, began. Brian says the book is “really about loss…loss of life, home, and even reputation,” but he wants readers to see that “loss is tolerable and acceptable.” He crafts the stories of each character so “their life losses resolve in a joyful way.”
Brian is currently working on his third novel, to be released in 2020. He grew up in New Mexico, France, Germany, North Carolina and Alexandria, Virginia. Brian is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of South Carolina School of Law. His law practice specializes in real estate, consumer claims and foreclosure defense. Brian and his wife, Ellie, have three children and five grandchildren.
