DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Waccamaw Library (41 St. Paul Place\, Pawleys Island\, SC 29585)\, as part of “A Glorious Cause\,” Beth Yarbrough will take us on a virtual tour of historic buildings from the colonial and Revolutionary period in South Carolina\, including homes and churches\, that are in need of preservation either because they have fallen into disrepair or because they are endangered by oncoming development. Yarbrough is the author of The Grassroots Guide to Saving What Matters\, a layperson’s guide to protecting historic structures in their community. \nThe Georgetown County Library (GCL) will host a series of 20 public educational programs and exhibits as part of “A Glorious Cause: South Carolina and the American Revolution: A Public History Initiative of the Georgetown County Library.” The programs\, which will be free and open to the public\, will take place at each of GCL’s 5 facilities across Georgetown County from March 2026 through June 2026. The project is made possible by a $39\,300 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the South Carolina State Library (SCSL).

An action-packed reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn\, the novel was an instant New York Times bestseller\, was longlisted for the Booker Prize\, and was named the best book of the year in myriad publications. As the Chicago Tribune declared\, James is “A masterpiece that will help redefine one of the classics of American literature\, while also being a major achievement on its own.” \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but pre-registration is suggested. We anticipate a high volume of attendees.
