SUMMARY:Lemonade: A Fresh Pressed Musical
DESCRIPTION:Trustus Theatre announced the world premiere of LEMONADE: A FRESH PRESSED MUSICAL\, a bold and heartfelt new musical from Jesse Corbin about friendship\, loss\, and self-acceptance. Previews begin August 12\, with the show running on the Thigpen Main Stage August 15 – 30. \nShowtimes: Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30 PM; Sundays at 2:30 PM\nRun Time: Approx. 95 Minutes \nSummer is about to get sour! On the cusp of high school\, best friends Timmy and Squeeze reopen their annual lemonade stand to honor Timmy’s late father and compete in a life-changing contest. Their plans take a turn when the neighborhood “It Girl” – Caity – launches a rival cookie business directly across the street. As a fierce battle of wits tests friendships and values\, the tactics turn dark and deeply personal. Will they hold tight to bitterness\, or risk vulnerability to build something sweeter than they ever imagined? \nLEMONADE\, which is recommended for ages 10 and up\, is also a rare opportunity for audience members to bring their kids to Trustus Theatre. Playwright\, composer\, and lyricist Jesse Corbin says\, “LEMONADE is a multi-generational adventure! An exciting event for kids and parents that will also entertain and thrill theater goers with its slapping tunes and hilarious antics.”

SUMMARY:Aug. Lunch and Learn: "Davidson and Dispossession"
DESCRIPTION:“Davidson and Dispossession: The Dismantling of the Catawba Reservation\, the Establishment of Davidson College\, and the Importance of ‘Hard History’”\nRose Stremlau\, Ph.D.\, Charles A. Dana Associate Professor of History/Gender & Sexuality Studies\, Davidson College \nIn this lecture\, Stremlau connects the stories of settler economic development\, including land speculation and enslavement; marriage and family formation; institution building; and historical memory in the Catawba River Valley region. Stremlau will discuss early findings and the design of this multi-year project that integrates two processes that\, until now\, have been disconnected in historical narratives. Drawing evidence from a range of primary sources and informed by genealogical methods\, Stremlau and students at Davidson College are learning how the founding families generated the financial means to establish the college through speculation in Catawba land and investment in plantations\, including enslaved people\, and the domestic slave trade. \nPresented in person and virtually. SUMMARY:Come From Away at Town Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Even in the darkest moments\, people have an extraordinary capacity for kindness. On September 11\, 2001\, U.S. airspace was closed\, leaving thousands of passengers on 38 planes unexpectedly grounded in the small town of Gander\, Newfoundland. The result? A true story of strangers opening their homes\, and their hearts\, to people from around the world. Filled with stirring music\, humor and hope\, Come From Away is a reminder that\, even in times of tragedy\, kindness can unite. \nWhile audiences may come expecting a story about a day that changed the world\, what they discover is something much more personal. Come From Away celebrates the generosity\, resilience and unexpected friendships that blossomed over five unforgettable days. It is a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things\, not because they had to\, but because it was simply the right thing to do. \nTown Theatre is especially honored to open its 107th Season with this remarkable musical. At a time when the world often feels divided\, Come From Away reminds us of what can happen when compassion takes center stage. The production’s fast-paced storytelling\, inventive staging and soaring folk-inspired score invite audiences to laugh\, reflect and celebrate the enduring power of community. \nWhether you know the story by heart or are experiencing it for the first time\, Town Theatre’s Come From Away offers an unforgettable evening of theatre. \nCome From Away is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
