Gracelynn Wall (The Secret Garden) and Grace Bender (White Christmas) portray Rose’s daughters at the beginning of their “careers” as part of the small-fry troupe on a musical tour that takes them through sordid back stages and fleabag hotels of the 1920s. Ashton Boland (The Secret Garden) steps in as a more “grown up” Louise who transforms into burlesque star\, Gypsy Rose Lee. Hayle Barry\, in her Town Theatre debut\, portrays June in her middle years\, first adoring the spotlight but then despises it; creating the opening for her sister’s rise to stardom when she runs off with co-star Tulsa\, taken by Kieran Eustace\, also joining the Town company for the first time. Joel Yarborough (A Christmas Carol: The Musical\, Les Mis) portrays Herbie\, showcasing the struggles between being a father figure to Louise and June and a suitor to Momma Rose. \nTheir journey to Broadway takes them to the bowels of show business\, where they encounter three ladies of the world of Burlesque. Tori Bernasconi (making her first appearance on the Town stage) portrays Mazeppa; Jennifer Kraus (Come From Away) shines as Electra; and Mia Oliver (also making her Town debut) shows finesse as Tessie Tura. And what is the story of Gypsy without newsboys\, farm boys and caricatures of the world of Vaudeville? Agnes Babb (Anything Goes)\, Zach Cieri (Elf: The Musical)\, Troy King (Little Shop of Horrors)\, Chris Matney (Something Rotten)\, Reid Moser (Mamma Mia)\, Ariana Mejia (The Little Mermaid)\, Lexi Narry (Beauty and the Beast) and Peyton Rabon (Kiss Me\, Kate) are joined by Town newcomers Chris Bender\, Charlie Davenport\, Ashli Harley and Summer Jewell\, bringing to life the many colorful characters of our fable. DESCRIPTION:Trustus is proud to announce that we’re partnering with the Post & Courier Columbia to present select plays from Women+ On The Edge of Democracy\, a groundbreaking initiative encouraging conversation about American democracy initiated by the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Vermont and The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. \nOur presentations will be on Thursday\, October 29 at 7:30PM and Sunday\, November 1 at 2:30PM on the Thigpen MainStage\, featuring a number of Trustus company members and frequent artist collaborators. Each presentation will include a discussion moderated by members of the Post & Courier newsroom. \nThe Flynn created this groundbreaking cultural and civic initiative which commissioned 36 prominent women+ playwrights from around the world to write ten-minute plays or monologues in response to these urgent questions: \n\nWhat is the current state of democracy in America?\nWhat can history\, global context\, or futurism offer us in this pivotal moment?\n\nAs the United States marks its semiquincentennial\, the Flynn will publish the complete collection of plays as an anthology – free to perform – inviting artists\, community groups\, and citizens across the country to stage readings and performances between October 23 and November 3\, ahead of the U.S. Midterm Elections. The anthology will be available for purchase in September\, with rights waived for individuals and non-profit organizations who would like to present the plays free of charge to the public. \nWomen+ on the Edge of Democracy is presented by the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in partnership with the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. In this up‑close setting\, Mozart’s music sparkles: you’ll hear the wit\, warmth\, and emotional electricity that made him one of history’s most irresistible voices\, revealed with extraordinary clarity. \nThe evening opens with the Overture to Don Giovanni — music that plunges us into high drama from the first notes. Legend has it Mozart completed this overture on the very morning of the opera’s 1787 Prague premiere\, and you can feel that crackling\, last‑minute urgency in the writing. It’s Mozart the dramatist in a nutshell: danger and delight sharing the same stage. \nAt the heart of the night is Violin Concerto No. 3\, performed by Joanna Mulfinger\, our Principal Second Violin and the orchestra’s Stuart P. Bowne Endowed Chair. A Greenville native and longtime leader on our stage\, Joanna is beloved for her luminous sound and expressive poise — and this concerto fits her like a glove. Written in 1775 during Mozart’s Salzburg years\, the Third brims with youthful charm and operatic grace. You’ll hear it in the opening movement’s elegant\, vocal‑style themes and in the Adagio’s tender\, aria‑like lines — music that sings as if from the opera house. The finale dances with folkish\, playful character (listen for quicksilver exchanges between soloist and orchestra)\, a reminder of Mozart’s joy in transforming popular styles into high art. In the Gunter’s intimate acoustics\, the concerto becomes a conversation — and you’re close enough to catch every smile. \nWe close with Symphony No. 40 in G minor\, one of only two symphonies Mozart wrote in a minor key and a work that seems to glow from within. Composed in the astonishing summer of 1788\, when he created his final three symphonies in quick succession\, No. 40 blends urgency and elegance in equal measure. Its famous opening\, with sighing figures that seem to press forward restlessly\, feels almost confessional — a glimpse of private emotion shaped with impeccable craft. Mozart later revised the score to include clarinets\, enriching the symphony’s color and deepening its warmth; in a hall like the Gunter\, that timbral glow registers beautifully. DESCRIPTION:Visit one of the most studied estuaries in the world in this 4-mile hike through the salt marsh of North Inlet. The group will travel by bus to the forest edge where the hike begins. The marsh causeway will lead to Clambank Landing- an Indigenous Peoples shell midden that later housed the duck hunting cabins for Bernard Baruch and his guests. In the distance\, participants will see North Island and part of Hobcaw Beach\, where Belle Baruch watched for German spies during World War II. Pictures and stories of the history and ecology will be shared. \nParticipants will need to dress for the weather\, wear closed-toe shoes\, and bring bug spray\, snack\, and water. Program is weather dependent. (Exertion level: High impact – hiking\, standing for long periods\, walking on uneven terrain) \n$38 per person. Reservations required: hobcawbarony.org/events(opens in new tab) \nPlease note that tour participants travel via a 12-person passenger bus on rustic roads comprised of sand and dirt. Often\, the roads are extremely rough and rutted\, a situation which will jostle riders on the bus. Although the staff at Hobcaw Barony tries to keep them smooth\, due to changeable weather and other factors\, the condition of the rural roadways cannot be guaranteed to be smooth.

DESCRIPTION:Charleston County Parks introduced a new race at beautiful Laurel Hill County Park this November! On Saturday\, Nov. 7\, the Shake Your Trail Feathers race will debut at the Mount Pleasant park\, offering a 5K\, a 10K and a Kids Dash. \nThis festive race will mix high-energy fall fun with off-road adventure. Runners will weave through wooded paths and dirt trails\, while kicking up some leaves. Costumes are encouraged on the course\, and runners will enjoy a finish line celebration featuring music and fall-themed treats. Plus\, runners will enjoy beautiful views throughout the park\, including moss-draped oaks and peaceful views. \nWinners of the race will take home the fixings for a Thanksgiving feast\, and all finishers will receive a commemorative medal! \nThe 5K and 10K will kick off at 9 a.m. Prior to the race\, at 8:45 a.m.\, children of all ages are invited to take part in an untimed Kids Dash across the finish line (parent or guardian must be present). Registration is required for all races\, and includes finisher medals. \nRegistration is only available in advance at CharlestonCountyParks.com (direct link) and ends on Wednesday\, Nov. 4. On-site registration is not available. \n \n\n5K registration: $38\n10K registration: $40\nKids Dash registration: $5\n\nThe course features trails of a natural\, unimproved surface. The course is a loop course that offers occasional areas of uneven terrain and varies from hard-packed trails with roots to grass. Strollers are not recommended\, and pets are not permitted on the race course. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottle. \nThis race is open to runners and walkers of all levels\, including beginners. Participants under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. No accessible parking is available. An accessible port-a-let is available at the event site. \nLaurel Hill County Park is located between Highway 17N and Highway 41 in Mount Pleasant. For the race\, attendees must enter through the special event entrance location at 1400 Highway 41.
