SUMMARY:Honor Georgetown
DESCRIPTION:The Prince George Winyah Graveyard is one of the oldest and most historic graveyards in South Carolina\, with gravestones dating back before official parish records began in 1815. Located at 300 Broad Street in Georgetown\, it surrounds the Prince George Winyah Church\, which serves a congregation founded in 1721. The graveyard was established around 1740\, shortly before the current brick church building was completed in 1755. \nThe graveyard is the final resting place for thirteen Georgetown County Revolutionary War Patriots\, Robert Francis Withers Allston\, a 19th-century Governor of South Carolina\, Gabriel Marion\, the father of General Francis Marion\, the “Swamp Fox”\, and Paul Trapier\, a patriot elected to the Second Continental Congress. \nVisitors will hear about the extraordinary lives of Revolutionary War soldiers buried or memorialized here and the ones who waited on the home front. The graveyard’s iconography and architecture provide additional glimpses into the past. Now\, the cemetery stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of those who occupy its sacred grounds. This is a free event that is open to the public. Moderate walking is required\, and parking is available along Broad Street. \nAdvance registration is required at www.eventcreate.com/e/patriots-tour

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: The Most Dangerous Sentence Ever Written
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Richard Almeida\, Co-Director of The Belle Baruch Institute for South Carolina Studies\, will focus deeply on the Declaration’s Preamble\, exploring why the iconic phrase “all men are created equal” was never intended as a literal description of early American society.
