SUMMARY:Diaper Drive Thru In Clinton
DESCRIPTION:This month’s Diaper Drive Thru will take place in Clinton at the Victory Worship Center Parking Lot (located at the intersection of Highway 76 E and Springdale Drive) from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesday\, March 12th. \nSupport for the monthly Diaper Drive Thru events is growing with several new organizations joining the effort donating funds\, diapers and helping with the events. Special thanks to Westminster Presbyterian Church for the ongoing efforts and to Cornerstone Baptist Church and Broad Street United Methodist Church for joining forces to support those in need. \nDonations Needed \nTo meet the continually growing demand\, there is a need for more diaper donations. Those willing to contribute can support by purchasing packs of diapers during their next shopping trip. Larger sizes (5\, 6 & 7) and pull-ups are the most requested items and much needed. \nWith the addition of the Sanitary Market in Laurens\, we now have three donation drop off locations. \nDonations can be dropped off at these designated locations: \nSadler Hughes Apothecary in Clinton\nBerkshire Hathaway HomeServices C. Dan Joyner Realtors in Clinton\nSanitary Market in Laurens (124 E Public Square) in Laurens\nParticipant Requirements \nTo ensure assistance reaches those genuinely in need\, parents or guardians seeking help at the Diaper Drive Thru must present appropriate identification to verify their circumstances. Verification documents may include a copy of the parent or guardian’s photo ID\, along with supporting documentation proving custody or birth. Eligible forms of verification include birth certificates\, WIC or Medicaid cards for the child\, foster care or custody paperwork\, and daycare or school IDs. Each family is eligible to receive one pack of diapers and wipes per child\, with a maximum of two children per household. Identification is only required the first time. \nCollaboration with Carolina Pregnancy Center \nIn addition to providing diapers and wipes\, the Diaper Drive Thru collaborates with the Carolina Pregnancy Center (CPC) from Spartanburg. CPC’s mobile unit will be present at the event\, offering free pregnancy testing and ultrasounds as needed. This collaboration significantly enhances the event’s impact\, providing comprehensive support to families facing challenges. \nMaking a difference\, one pack of diapers at a time\, served up with a smile and words of support and encouragement.

SUMMARY:Lander University Film Festival's Short Film Competition
DESCRIPTION:Lander University has announced the timeline for the Short Film Competition\, part of the 14th Annual Lander University Film Festival. This competition provides today’s filmmakers an opportunity to push their storytelling boundaries while showcasing their love of cinematography. \nA required kickoff workshop for entrants will be held on Tuesday\, March 12\, at 4 p.m. on the campus of Lander University. While at the kickoff\, participants will receive a unique line of dialogue that they are required to use in their five-minute film. Filmmakers will then have eight days to produce\, edit and perfect their submission. All participants must attend the kickoff to be eligible to compete. This will provide competitors with the information they will need to create their films and allow them to discuss their passion with professionals in the filmmaking business. The workshop will be streamed online for those who cannot attend in person. There will be three divisions of competitions\, which include a High School\, College and Open Division. The registration fee is $20 for the College and High School Division and $25 for the Open Division. \n“The filmmakers never fail to impress me with their creativity and execution in producing a quality short film in such a short period\,” commented Dr. Robert Stevenson\, professor of media and communication at Lander and chair of the festival. “I anxiously look forward to screening the films with the larger community.” Stevenson has been involved with Lander University’s Film Festival since 2010. \nSelected films will be shown on Saturday\, March 30\, at the Lander University Film Festival\, allowing filmmakers to showcase their films to the public. First place winners of each division will receive a cash prize of up to $200\, with smaller cash prizes for second and third place. Filmmakers interested in participating can visit the official Lander University Film Festival website for detailed guidelines and to sign up: www.landerfilmfestival.com. \nSupport for the 14th Annual Lander University Film Festival comes from a grant from South Carolina Humanities. SUMMARY:Lander’s Southard-Dobbs to ‘Mythbust Memory’ in Community Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to join Lander University and the Arts Center of Greenwood for the fifth installment of the 2023-24 Community Lecture Series Tuesday\, March 12\, at the Arts Center. Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Shana Southard-Dobbs will give a talk titled “Forget What You Know: Mythbusting Memory.” The lecture begins at 6 p.m.\, with refreshments starting at 5:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. \nMemory is an essential function of the human mind. Much of what we think and do throughout a day relies on our ability to successfully remember information and skills\, and our most treasured personal memories can help us to know and understand ourselves\, our families and our communities. Yet\, the familiarity of our own memories can obscure our understanding of memory’s true complexity. Many of the go-to strategies students rely on to learn and remember information are ineffective. Memories of personal experiences can change in surprising ways over time\, and a person’s confidence in their memory is sometimes a shockingly bad indicator of its accuracy. In this interactive talk\, Southard-Dobbs will illustrate important\, and sometimes surprising findings from the scientific research on memory that can impact the lives of every learner\, educator and community member. \nAt Lander\, Southard-Dobbs teaches courses on memory and cognitive psychology for the Department of Psychological Sciences and Human Services. She also mentors student researchers in her Stress and Cognition Lab. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Hendrix College\, an M.S. in Community Counseling from the University of Central Arkansas and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of North Texas. Southard-Dobbs was the 2019 recipient of the Junior Faculty Teaching Award and is a Faculty Fellow in the Center for Faculty Excellence at Lander University. \nPlease visit www.lander.edu/events for updates and to confirm event times and venues. For questions\, please contact Interim Assistant Provost Dr. Mark Rollins at 864-388-8563 or mrollins@lander.edu.

SUMMARY:Langston Baptist Church Hosts Symposium on the Age-Old Question -
