DESCRIPTION:A series of guided tours and educational events focused on two significant Revolutionary War battlefields in Laurens County is scheduled for Saturday\, June 6\, beginning at the Laurens County Museum. \nRevolutionary War lecturer and battlefield preservationist Durant Ashmore will lead the day’s programming\, which kicks off at 9 a.m. with a lecture on the history and controversies surrounding the South Carolina state flag. A tour of a public Native Plant Garden follows at 10:30 a.m.\, with battlefield tours beginning at 11 a.m. \nThe full schedule is as follows: \n9 a.m. — S.C. Flag lecture\, Laurens County Museum\n10:30 a.m. — Native Plant Garden tour\, 1503 Green Plain Rd\, Clinton\n11 a.m. — Hammond’s Old Store battlefield tour\, 1503 Green Plain Rd.\, Clinton\nNoon — Hayes Station battlefield tour\, 455 Williams Rd.\, Clinton\nAttendees may participate in the full morning of events or select individual programs based on their schedules. \nHammond’s Old Store was the site of an overwhelming Patriot victory just 18 days before the Battle of Cowpens\, one of the turning points of the Revolutionary War in the South. Hayes Station\, which took place one month after the British surrender at Yorktown\, is remembered as one of the most horrific acts carried out by Loyalist militia leader Bloody Bill Cunningham. \nThe events are open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Honoring 250 Years of Freedom with Community\, Health\, and Outdoor Fun \nThe Laurens County Trails Association is inviting residents of all ages to celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday\, June 6\, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Loop Trail\, located beside the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce office. \nThe free\, family-friendly event will honor 250 years of American freedom with a morning of fitness\, outdoor activity\, and community connection along one of Laurens County’s growing trail systems. \nActivities will include a 5K run beginning at 8:30 a.m.\, a 2K Fun Run/Walk for families and beginners starting at 9:30 a.m.\, kids bike clinics focused on safety and skills\, a Healthy Living Fair featuring wellness resources and local partners\, an America 250 Family Fun Zone with patriotic-themed games and activities\, and live music and entertainment throughout the morning. \nParticipants are encouraged to come dressed in patriotic attire as part of the America 250 celebration. \n“This event is about more than just trails\,” said Bob Bryant of the Laurens County Trails Association. “It’s about bringing people together\, promoting healthy lifestyles\, and celebrating the natural beauty and history of our community as we honor 250 years of freedom.” \nNational Trails Day is organized nationwide by the American Hiking Society as an annual celebration encouraging people across the country to enjoy trails while supporting conservation and recreation efforts. The day begins in Newberry with a meet-and-greet at Bill and Fran’s\, 11724 SC-34\, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wilson then heads to Laurens before a noon rally at Greer Mill\, 300 Connecticut Ave.\, in Greer. The afternoon includes a 2:00 p.m. stop at Southern Weaving\, 210 Fern Street in Easley\, followed by a 5:00 p.m. appearance at Chick-fil-A\, 3526 Clemson Blvd.\, in Anderson. \nWilson\, who has served as South Carolina’s attorney general since 2011\, is among the candidates seeking the Republican nomination for governor. With Tuesday’s primary fast approaching\, Saturday’s tour represents one of the last chances for Upstate voters to connect with Wilson before casting their ballots. \nThe South Carolina Republican primary is scheduled for Tuesday\, June 9.
