SUMMARY:City of Charleston to Host ‘MOJA On King’ Free Block Party Event
DESCRIPTION:The city of Charleston will host MOJA on King\, a free block party featuring live music\, vendors\, outdoor dining and extended retail hours\, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday\, October 5\, 2023. The event will take place along upper King Street\, primarily between John and Warren Streets\, which will be closed to vehicular traffic during event hours. \n The Queens of Hip Hop and Soul\, the event’s headline musical attraction\, will perform at 7 p.m. at the corner of King and Ann Streets. The event will also feature steel drumming from Mason Prep and Deninufay African Dance & Drums Co. \nAdditionally\, a number of resource organizations\, including the city’s Minority & Women-owned Business Enterprise office\, MOJA Arts Festival\, Black Charleston Professionals and Increasing H.O.P.E. Women’s Business Center\, will be in attendance. \nIn addition to the outdoor entertainment\, MOJA and Explore Charleston\, in partnership with Buxton Books\, will host two poetry and literary offerings in the Camden Room at the adjacent Charleston Visitor Center (375 Meeting Street). Poet Georgia Nubia will present at 6 p.m.\, followed by poet Roger Reeves\, who will discuss his most recent book and debut work of non-fiction\, Dark Days\, with Gary Jackson\, Associate Professor at the College of Charleston. Books will be available for purchase. \nMOJA on King is being hosted as part of the 2023 MOJA Arts Festival\, an 11-day celebration of African-American and Caribbean culture hosted annually by the city in partnership with the MOJA Planning Committee and a network of local civic and cultural leaders. DESCRIPTION:Firefly Distillery is hosting the inaugural Fall Food Truck Feastival on Saturday\, October 28\, 2023 from 12 – 4 p.m. Just in time for Halloween\, the fall-themed\, family-friendly event is free to attend and will feature 25 food trucks\, with fare ranging from seafood to brunch\, southern comfort food to healthy eats. In addition to welcoming more diverse food trucks than ever before\, Firefly will have a local pop-up market\, music by DJ Cabana Vibez\, and craft cocktails for purchase. \nSimilar to past food truck festivals at Firefly Distillery\, an array of 25 local food trucks will take over the newly expanded five-acre field. On Firefly’s Back Porch\, DJ Cabana Vibez will be playing tunes from 12 – 4 p.m. Craft cocktails\, including signature and seasonal\, will be available for purchase in the Tasting Room. Attendees can enjoy food truck fare on the field and are encouraged to bring chairs\, pop-up tables\, blankets or lawn games to spread out. Visitors can spend the day supporting local businesses by shopping vendors’ and enjoying dishes from Charleston area food trucks. \nFor the event\, Firefly Distillery will open at 12 p.m. and offer seasonal and craft cocktails and beer for purchase until 6 p.m. Outside food\, drinks\, coolers\, and dogs will need to stay at home. Parking is limited onsite\, so Uber and Lyft are highly encouraged\, and the distillery asks that all guests please be respectful of neighboring businesses.
