SUMMARY:Picnics in the Park in Forest Acres
DESCRIPTION:Be sure to join Town Theatre for its fourth concert series ~ Picnics in the Park ~ on Friday\, November 3 starting at 5:45 PM. The concert\, lasting roughly one hour and concluding before the setting sun\, will feature different performers in an evening of song providing the perfect backdrop for a family picnic. \nOur final concert of the series will be Friday\, November 3 and featuring our Town Theatre voice faculty and youth theatre director. David LaTorre has been seen on stage in The Music Man\, Bright Star and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. By day\, he leads the youth theatre program at Town and has the pleasure of working alongside his fellow picnic performers. Katie Gatch has served as a Town musical director and is one of our private voice instructors. She is well known for her opera performances at USC. Amanda Wrona got her start as a musical director at Town and has also appeared on the stage in Les Mis and Beauty and the Beast. She is the primary vocal instructor for our Town Teen Troupe. Jane Cato recently directed The Sound of Music and was also on stage in Bright Star. She is the primary vocal coach for the Town Tween Troupe and offers private voice lessons. Our faculty concert singers will be accompanied by Michael Simmons. \nTickets for each concert are $5 and you may purchase online at towntheatre.com. You may also purchase your ticket on site at the park. In true picnic fashion\, be sure to grab dinner from your favorite Forest Acres restaurant. Please also bring your own seating in the way of tailgate chairs and/or blankets. There is plenty of room at the park to spread out and enjoy the fantastic entertainment. \nPinetree Park is in the triangle between Coker Street and Wofford/Winthrop Avenues in Forest Acres. Coker runs perpendicular to Trenholm Road near Trenholm Plaza. In the event of inclement weather\, the concert will be held indoors at St. Martin’s in the Fields at 5220 Clemson Avenue. SUMMARY:Conversations in Color Opens Nov. 3 with Reception at Rob Shaw Framing and Gallery
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, November 3\, from 6 to 9 p.m.\, Rob Shaw Framing and Gallery will host an opening-night reception for Conversations in Color\, a month-long show featuring paintings by artists Sonja Diimmler and Anna Majure. The gallery is at 324 State Street in West Columbia. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work\, which will be available in the gallery for viewing and for sale throughout November. \nAn award-winning artist\, Diimmler is known for her dramatic use of color in contemporary South Carolina landscapes\, for bold abstracts\, and for dog portraits. In 2021\, the Columbia Metropolitan Airport featured her colorful lake and Lowcountry landscapes. Rob Shaw Gallery showcased her work in a 2021 solo show\, and the Anderson Fine Art Gallery in St. Simons Island selected her abstracts for a juried holiday show in 2022. \nBorn and raised in Columbia\, Majure grew up in a family of creative people. After graduating from Newberry College\, Majure channeled her creativity into her interior design\, decorating\, and fine art business\, Majure Décor. She believes art is a powerful tool for transforming ordinary spaces into harmonious displays of both comfort and inspiration. Her bright canvas paintings are regularly featured in local businesses such as Good for The Sole and the Ivy House. \nRob Shaw Framing and Gallery is a full-service frame shop and fine art gallery. Since opening his gallery in April of 2019\, Shaw has showcased the work of many South Carolina artists. For the remainder of 2023\, the gallery will host First Friday at Rob Shaw Gallery receptions every month.

While his writing spans many genres and mediums\, during this Meet the Author event\, Mosley will discuss mystery writing as renowned poet Nikky Finney guides the conversation. \nMosely’s impact on the world literature far surpasses his creative talents. In 2013\, Mosley was inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame\, and he is the winner of numerous awards\, including an O. Henry Award\, The Mystery Writers of America’s Grand Master Award\, a Grammy®\, several NAACP Image awards\, and PEN America’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The exhibition will feature 50 objects\, including a recently acquired 1815 Bible once owned by a Charleston abolitionist William Turpin. Fans can enjoy $1 fountain sodas\, $2 domestic draft beers an $3 craft draft beers and house cocktails (cocktails such as Grinch Punch are not included).
