SUMMARY:Contemporary Print Collective’s “Unmasked” art exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Greenville Center for Creative Arts (GCCA) in association with the Contemporary Print Collective is excited to announce the opening of the new Community Gallery exhibition\, Unmasked. The exhibition features the work of CPC member artists and friends of the CPC\, Kent Ambler\, Jim Campbell\, Steven Chapp\, Kevin Clinton\, Katya Cohen\, Addam Duncan\, Marty Epp-Carter\, Barbara Ervin\, Mandy Ferguson\, Phil Garrett\, David Gerhard\, Luis Jaramillo\, Nancy Jaramillo\, Catherine Labbe\, Shaun McCallum\, Vivian Morris\, Mark Mulfinger\, Jane Nodine\, Douglas Piper\, Deborah Puretz\, Roberta Restiano\, Ambrose Rouse\, Susan Staggs\, Jared Stanley\, Freda Sue\, Mary Walker\, Joel Wilkinson\, and Gerry Wubben. The exhibition opens with a First Friday reception from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on Friday\, September 2nd and continues until Wednesday\, October 26th\, 2022. The exhibition will also be open during the First Friday on October 3rd\, 2022. \nArt can provide an important intellectual and emotional outlet when the artist and the audience face personal and social challenges. After 2 years of an anemic social environment due to a challenging global crisis\, privatization has trumped community in many respects. This process has been visually hallmarked by face coverings\, which\, while vital to public health\, also represent the suppression of social interaction contributing to emotional isolation. In Unmasked\, printmakers reintroduce themselves to society through self-portraits. Participants were asked to create a self-portrait that is recognizable yet not necessarily realistic. These portraits range in print media\, from relief prints of woodcut and linoleum to intaglio and lithography.

For show times and dates\, please go the Trustus website. \nLet’s do the Time Warp again. The Rocky Horror Show returns to the Thigpen Main Stage just in time for Halloween. Running September 30th through October 29th\, this spooky\, sensual fan-favorite is directed and choreographed by Trustus Company member Terrance Henderson and musically directed by Company Emeritus Chris Cockrell with company member Walter Graham returning to the role of Frank’N’Furter. Rocky Horror marks the seventh time the show has been produced by Trustus\, 30 years after the original production. The show is sponsored by Top Hat Sweepers\, Z Realty\, and Marketing Performance. \nStuck with a flat tire during a storm\, newly engaged love birds Brad and Janet find themselves at the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank’N’Furter. What follows is a “strange journey” full of wild characters\, huge musical numbers\, and fan-favorite moments that are sure to please. This out-of-this-world classic will leave audiences dancing\, laughing\, and shivering with antici…pation. The Rocky Horror Show inspired the 1974 film of the same name. With book\, music and lyrics by Richard O’Brien\, The Rocky Horror Show is an interactive rock musical. Audiences are encouraged to dress in costume and yell “callouts” back at the cast throughout the show. Trustus will also be selling participation kits that include playing cards\, newspapers\, toilet paper\, and more. The audience is welcome to use their props during specific moments in the show\, making it a communal experience for cast and patrons alike. (Trustus does not allow outside props into the theatre.) \n Trustus is proud to partner with Twisted Spur Brewing for a dinner package that includes a three course dinner and a ticket to Rocky Horror. On select nights in October\, enjoy a fixed menu with lots of delicious options before your performance of Rocky Horror. The package is $95 per person\, or $180 per couple and includes dishes like Oysters Rockefeller\, shrimp and grits\, and tiramisu. Tickets can be booked through the Trustus website. Questions can be directed to Twisted Spur at (803) 764-0203. \n Trustus will also host a closing night Halloween party. Partake in spooky snacks catered by Twisted Spur\, free drinks\, door prizes\, and a costume contest before the show\, then enjoy the closing night performance of The Rocky Horror Show with your participation bag included. Costumes are highly encouraged and guests are invited to continue the party after the show. More info to come. Tickets are very limited and can be purchased through the Trustus website. \nThe Rocky Horror Show opens Friday\, September 30th at 8:00pm and runs through Saturday\, October 29th. All Trustus matinees will now be held at 2:00pm. The box office and bar open one hour prior to show time. SUMMARY:The Artist in the Archive: The Art-Science Discoveries of Kirsten Stolle
DESCRIPTION:Join the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston for a lecture by the “Only You Can Prevent A Forest” exhibition essayist Hannah Star Rogers centered on the intersection of art and science in the work of Kirsten Stolle. \nHannah Star Rogers is an Art and Science Studies scholar\, curator\, and poet. She received her Ph.D. at Cornell University in Science & Technology Studies\, where her research concerned the intersection of art and science\, particularly critiques of science in contemporary art. She explores the question of how art and science work as categories to circumscribe bodies of knowledge. She is currently a Visiting Scholar in Science\, Technology\, and Innovation Studies (STIS) at the University of Edinburgh and lectures at the University of Virginia’s Engineering and Society department. \nUsing appropriation\, wordplay\, and humor\, Kirsten Stolle co-opts advertising strategies used by agrichemical corporations to resurface and critique company history. For her exhibition\, Stolle has created photo-based collages\, visual poetry interventions\, text-based sound animation\, a neon wall piece\, and her first site-responsive sculptural installation. \nBuilding upon her decade-long research into companies like Bayer/Monsanto and Dow Chemical\, the work will forefront historical ties to chemical warfare and reveal persistent greenwashing. Stolle’s work interrogates the global influence of chemical companies on our food supply and their consistent efforts to downplay effects of their toxic products on our health and environment.

SUMMARY:119th Annual Gala\, Presented by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina
DESCRIPTION:The Columbia Chamber’s 119th Annual Gala\, presented by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina\, promises to be one that Partners will be talking about all year! The Chamber’s Annual Gala is our region’s premier business event with attendees representing some of the area’s most influential corporate leaders\, small business owners\, young professionals\, educators\, elected officials\, and more. Join us as we celebrate the many achievements of our Partners over the past year and recognize the Ambassador of the Year and other awards. \nThis year’s gala will be held at Junction 800 in the Vista District and will feature live music by The Embers along with a brief program. Be sure to grab a drink and a bite to eat\, but don’t worry about saving your seat! This year’s Gala will no longer feature a formal dinner with assigned seating arrangements\, but rather a more relaxed experience with plenty of room to socialize over great food and drinks. We are moving away from the traditional black-tie dress code and are encouraging guests to instead “dress to impress.” Business or cocktail attire is appropriate. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes! \nWe’re excited to continue the momentum of last year’s retooled Gala and welcome our Partners and community leaders for a night of celebration you won’t want to miss. Be sure to get your tickets soon!

SUMMARY:Narratives Ending in Separation
DESCRIPTION:In Narratives Ending in Separation\, Linda McCune’s mixed media sculptures traverse emotional autobiographies that memorialize cherished family\, childhood fears\, and a young woman’s longing for children. These sculptures give the opportunity to remember and honor the importance of the everyday\, of family. Her finely crafted structures are embedded with made and found objects to imbue her sculpture with an abstract spirituality and a ritual of symbolic details. She reminds us that all our past can be prophetic to our present.
