SUMMARY:Invisible Planet
DESCRIPTION:Invisible Planet features exhibiting artists Virginia Russo and Joseph Smolin investigating themes of belonging through an imagined alternative world. Invisible Planet is an imaginary world that represents untouched beauty and the raw wonder of creation. \nRusso created “The Planet” which aims to be a refuge for neuro-divergent people who suffer from sensory issues and overstimulation. This world in her work is a mysterious and ethereal land filled with mountains\, cliffs\, mushrooms\, and an ever-present orange sun. Smolin’s experience growing up half-Jewish in the Deep South—Birmingham\, AL—is reflected in his symbology and exploration of identity issues. His flamboyant and androgynous characters\, as visitors on “The Planet“\, challenge gender norms and societal expectations. Smolin’s work delivers condensed psycho-symbolic imagery that deals with themes of identity\, religion\, oppression\, and conformity.

SUMMARY:Fort Jackson hosts firework celebration on July 1\, public is invited
DESCRIPTION:Fort Jackson’s friends and neighbors are once again invited to share a free and family-oriented evening of festivities to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day.  \nThe master of ceremony kicks off two free concerts beginning at 6 p.m. Headlining the evening is Blanco Brown\, an American country music artist\, singer\, songwriter\, record producer\, and rapper who has produced for Fergie and Pitbull. Combining his urban and rural roots growing up in Georgia\, Brown blurs the line between country and rap in what he proudly calls\, “Trailer Trap.” Brown’s debut single “The Git Up\,” claimed the top spot in the charts across the globe and garnered four billion views on social media. It was number one on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart for 12 weeks\, the top digital country song in the U.S. and spurred a viral TikTok dance session. Blanco was named Billboard’s Number One Top Country Artist in 2019. \nOpening for Brown is Brooks Herring\, a South Carolina native and rising star. Herring opened last year and returns this year with his full band Sell Out. He is a Navy veteran and a guitar-playing\, music-writing singer who performs a multitude of multigenerational genres. \nThose coming from off post are asked to use Gate 4\, Boyden Arbor Road to access Hilton Field. The field will be open at 4 p.m. so people can set up their own lawn chairs\, towels\, and blankets. At that time\, food trucks and vendors\, who will have food and beverage for sale\, and the kid zone\, with amusement rides\, will open for business.  People may bring a small cooler\, filled with a few items but not enough to compete with the business sales. \nEveryone older than 16 must possess a valid state or government issued identification card for entry.  The vehicle driver must possess a valid driver’s license\, valid proof of insurance and a valid registration. \nMotorcycle riders must also conform to Department of Defense regulations to enter post and the requirements include wearing a Department of Transportation approved helmet\, full-fingered gloves\, long pants\, over the ankle boots\, and long-sleeved shirt/jacket. \nAdditionally\, all visitors should be aware that random vehicle searches will be conducted at the gates.  For the safety of all of our guests\, prohibited items can be found on Jackson.armymwr.com website. This is the place to get up to date information about the event. \nFort Jackson hopes to honor our Nation and also provide a great event for on post personnel as well as our partners and community members. \n

SUMMARY:Martha Franks Retirement Community to Host Annual Patriotic Organ Concert
DESCRIPTION:It wouldn’t be the Fourth of July without the annual patriotic organ concert hosted by Martha Franks Retirement Community. \nThis year’s concert will be held on Sunday\, July 2 at 4:00 pm in the Rasor Chapel at Martha Franks Retirement Community (1 Martha Franks Drive\, Laurens SC). \nThe concert features organist Joe Greer\, who at the age of ninety is still serving as a church organist\, and he doesn’t show any signs of retiring. Greer began developing his amazing talent about sixty-nine years ago graduating from Furman University with a master’s degree in music. While serving in the military he played the organ for the Army Chapel. Greer then served several churches which include First Baptist Laurens\, First Baptist Conway\, First Baptist Spartanburg\, and First Baptist Greenwood. \nIn 1985 when Martha Franks Retirement Community opened\, Joe started the first choir called the Martha Franks Singers. Over the years the choir has performed musicals\, performed at conventions\, and brought great joy to those listening\, as well as those singing. \nGreer always has a big smile on his face as he reminisces about the years of music at Martha Franks. \n“The Martha Franks singers had such a wonderful time together\,” said Greer. “I have enjoyed being a part of the development of this community\, watching it grow from the ground up\, and through it all seeing Martha Franks herself work very hard.” \nGreer’s favorite music to play is Christmas music and Hymns. But definitely a favorite for concert attendees is his patriotic concerts. \nIf you haven’t attended the Martha Franks Patriotic Organ Concert before\, this is your chance to see what it’s all about. \nThe concert is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Cut It: Conversations Centering Black Male Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:Providing resources while highlighting the need for mental health care during National Minority Mental Health Month \nHosted by Greenville’s Racial Equity and Economic Mobility Commission \nMental health care is an essential topic for everyone\, and Black men are no exception. Mental health can be incredibly challenging for Black men due to the unique social and economic pressures they face daily. It’s essential to recognize the unique stressors Black men may face\, such as racism\, economic insecurity\, limited access to resources\, and the feeling of being underrepresented and overlooked. \nAlthough the title doubles as an OT Genasis song\, Cut It is an in-person conversational series that centers on black male mental health. This safe space allows black men in Greenville and surrounding areas to share daily issues\, learn more about therapists that could provide support\, and debunk the stigma around black men seeking mental health support. \nFacilitated by Bryant Kirk White\, CEO of A Bevy\, and held at Cutt’n Up  Barbershop\, this men-only event prioritizes the black male experience while amplifying the needs of our community members. \nRegister for this event by clicking the link below: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/cut-it-conversations-centering-black-male-mental-health-tickets-654971325867?aff=oddtdtcreator.
