SUMMARY:2023 Global Upstate Conference
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW \nThe Global Upstate Conference on International Business and Foreign Affairs is a unique conference in the Upstate region of South Carolina that is being held October 3 & 4\, 2023\, after a highly successful inaugural event in March of 2022. It brings together representatives of international companies\, government agencies\, local industry\, national think-tanks\, universities\, the military\, and non-governmental organizations. As an interdisciplinary event that brings leaders and scholars together for thoughtful discussions about the most pressing issues and opportunities facing the world\, the Global Upstate Conference\, presented by the nonprofit World Affairs Council Upstate\, the Upstate International Center\, and its partners\, provides a unique opportunity for grassroots engagement in the global issues of today. \nIn our region\, global engagement is critical to a healthy Upstate SC economy and a thriving\, diverse population whose cultures bring new talent and cultural richness to our communities. Open to the public\, the conference will be promoted across our ten-county region\, which is situated strategically between Atlanta and Charlotte and home to the SC Inland Port system and over 540 internationally owned companies. South Carolina ranks #1 for private industry employment by Majority-owned U.S. affiliates of foreign multinational enterprises. The state also stands out as the top destination for foreign investment\, ranking #1 nationwide in attracting jobs through foreign investment. \nFeedback from the inaugural 2022 event\, which showcased 54 speakers on 22 topics\, was fantastic\, as voiced by City of Greer Mayor Rick Danner\, who said: “The conference provided a unique opportunity to gain exposure to international\, national\, and even statewide issues from outstanding speakers and panelists. The opportunity to collect so much valuable information on foreign affairs\, U.S. foreign policy\, the international business community\, and what it all means to us in the upstate was not just time well spent\, but time well invested. I encourage any leader who feels compelled to be on the leading edge of the issues that affect us now – and will affect us in the future – to strongly consider attending this conference.” \nWe envision a total of 400+ participants with expected attendance at the conference by Internationally Owned Companies\, C-suite Business Leaders\, representatives of the South Carolina Department of Commerce\, the U.S. Commercial Service- SC\, the South Carolina Export Consortium\, local Government leaders\, Service Sector professionals from Law firms to Accounting\, Manufacturing representatives\, Information Technology\, Engineering\, and Logistics companies\, the South Carolina Ports Authority\, and others. Students from 5 upstate higher education institutions\, USC Upstate\, Clemson University\, Furman University\, Wofford College\, and Converse University\, will attend the conference. Student attendees will also represent Greenville High School.

SUMMARY:Big Red Barn Retreat Fall Jam at the BallPark
DESCRIPTION:The Big Red Barn Retreat is excited to announce this year’s Big Red Barn Retreat Fall Jam at the Ballpark will feature Grand Ole Opry Member and Multi-Platinum songwriter and country music artist Chris Janson. The concert will be held on October 7\, 2023 at Segra Park: Home of the Columbia Fireflies\, and gates open at 5:00PM. \nChris Janson is part of the country’s new breed. In touch with the lighter side of life with self-penned No. 1s “Fix A Drink\,” “Good Vibes\,” and the triple platinum “Buy Me A Boat\,” as well as the more thoughtful truths of “Done\,” “Things You Can’t Live Without\,” and the CMA Song of the Year nominee and ACM Video of the Year “Drunk Girl.” Both “Boat” and “Girl” were named to the Nashville Songwriters Association International’s prestigious “Songs I Wish I Wish I’d Written” list\, which is why artists like Tim McGraw (“Truck Yeah\,” “How I’ll Always Be”)\, Justin Moore (“Off The Beaten Path”)\, Cody Johnson (“Let’s Build A Fire”)\, and the iconic Hank Williams Jr. (“God Fearin’ Man\,” “Those Days Are Gone”) reach for Janson’s songs for their own projects. \nBeyond his artistry\, Chris Janson’s live performances are legendary- it’s where his heart-on-the-four-wheeler songwriting meets the fans and he rocks the stage. Rolling Stone proclaimed him “a live legacy in the making\,” as he makes music from his own life and gives country music fans harmonica-forward\, multi-instrumentalist music becoming the go-to guy for young country music over the last decade. \nBig Red Barn Retreat Fall Jam at the Ballpark\, presented by Sonic Drive-In\, has become one of the most patriotic events in the Midlands and honors our community’s veterans\, active-duty service members\, first responders and their families. This event is only made possible thanks to the support of our sponsors that include Segra Park: Home of the Columbia Fireflies\, iHeartRadio\, WISTV\, South Carolina Department of Safety\, Budweiser\, Dominion Energy\, Southeastern Freightlines\, Miller Lite\, White Claw Hard Seltzer\, Terrapin Beer\, Bower Commericial Construction\, AllSouth Credit Union\, Mungo Homes\, and Gregory Electric. \nThis is the sixth year of the Fall Jam and the BRBR is extremely excited to be hosting it at Segra Park: Home of the Columbia Fireflies again\, where there isn’t a bad seat in the house and is located in the heart of Columbia’s Bull Street District. \nGeneral admission seats are $40 and on-field\, front-of-stage tickets are $25. Veterans will get a discounted purchase price of $25 if they buy them in advance and show their military ID. Tickets go on sale July 14th and are nonrefundable. To buy tickets now\, visit https://www.thebigredbarnretreat.org/fall-jam-2023 . \nThere are also club level and luxury box tickets available. Club level includes wait service for food and beverage and access to an air-conditioned Club Lounge with a full bar and restrooms. Tickets for the club level are $50. Luxury box tickets can only be bought in advance for $1\,500. It includes 20 tickets\, four parking passes and a dedicated wait staff offering the opportunity to pre-order food and beverage or order during the event at additional cost. \nFor those needing accommodations\, the Hilton Columbia Center\, located at 924 Senate Street\, has rooms available at a special rate for concert goers. The Hilton Columbia Center is located in the heart of the Congaree Vista\, Columbia’s unique historic commercial district and one of the city’s most vibrant areas for shopping\, dining and nightlife. Close to the South Carolina State Museum\, Columbia’s Riverwalk Park\, Colonial Life Arena\, and of course close to SEGRA PARK. \nAll proceeds will benefit the many programs and services The BRBR offers to our military and first responder community at no cost\, including the widely studied and renowned Warrior PATHH program. For more information on the services and programs we provide\, visit https://www.thebigredbarnretreat.org/. \n  \nAbout The Big Red Barn Retreat \nThe Big Red Barn Retreat (BRBR) is a 501(c)(3) located in Blythewood\, South Carolina that provides free services\, programs and training to veterans\, active-duty service members and first responders struggling with military and combat-related stress. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years and has no cure. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes Huntington’s disease. Today\, there are approximately 41\,000 symptomatic Americans and 200\,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. In less than 10% of cases\, juvenile Huntington’s disease (JHD) affects children & adolescents. JHD usually has a more rapid progression rate than adult onset HD; the earlier the onset\, the faster JHD progresses. HD is described as having ALS\, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases – simultaneously. HD is characterized by a triad of symptoms\, including progressive motor dysfunction\, behavioral disturbance and cognitive decline.\n\nTeam Hope is HDSA’s largest national grassroots fundraising event\, which takes place in over 100 cities across the U.S. and has raised more than $24 million for Huntington’s disease since its inception in 2007. Thousands of families\, friends\, co-workers\, neighbors\, and communities walk together each year to support HDSA’s mission to improve the lives of people affected by Huntington’s disease and their families. \n\nThe Huntington’s Disease Society of America is the premier nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by HD. From community services and education to advocacy and research\, HDSA is the world’s leader in providing help for today and hope for tomorrow for people with HD and their families.\n\nTo learn more about Huntington’s disease and the work of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America\, visit www.HDSA.org or call 1(800)345-HDSA.
