This free event takes on an exciting new theme this year: “The Lorax!” Families are encouraged to embrace the spirit of Dr. Seuss’ beloved tale by dressing as their favorite characters and joining an afternoon of exploration\, learning\, and fun with the Charleston Parks Conservancy. Registration is encouraged. \nThis year’s Teddy Bear Picnic features an expanded experience\, including live entertainment\, interactive activities\, and engaging programs for children aged 2-10. More than 15 community partners will be stationed throughout Hampton Park\, offering hands-on experiences focused on horticulture\, nature\, health\, wellness\, community gardening\, and art. The Teddy Bear Picnic is a free\, rain-or-shine event. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the food truck village. \n“The Teddy Bear Picnic has been a beloved community tradition for 15 years\, bringing families together to enjoy Charleston’s parks at no cost\,” said Darlene Heater\, CEO and Executive Director of the Charleston Parks Conservancy. “As a free event\, it reflects our commitment to ensuring everyone has access to vibrant green spaces and meaningful outdoor experiences.” \nThis year\, the Conservancy is adapting to the new event and parking protocols introduced by the City. Starting this Saturday\, March 8\, volunteers are invited to join Second Saturday Service\, a monthly opportunity for community members to come together and tackle cleanup and improvement projects. \nThe first Second Saturday Service event begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Depot\, with volunteers working from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on projects including trash pickup\, street sign straightening\, and\, if enough volunteers participate\, a cleanup of Wall Street. The goal is to kick off the season with simple\, impactful tasks while encouraging residents to take pride in their downtown. \n“We are so excited to launch this initiative and get the community involved in caring for our beautiful downtown\,” said Susan Tallman\, board chair of Main Street Clinton and a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway in Clinton. “When we work together\, even small efforts make a big difference.” \nThe Second Saturday Service will continue on the second Saturday of each month from March through October\, with projects evolving based on weather and community input. Join fellow crochet enthusiasts for a day of mindful and environmentally friendly creativity on March 8th\, from 10 am – 3 pm. \n \nWashington will demonstrate rag crochet and regular yarn crochet. Rag crochet is a sustainable craft that transforms discarded textiles like old clothing\, sheets\, and fabric scraps into beautiful\, functional items such as rugs\, baskets\, and blankets. By cutting fabric into strips and crocheting them together\, crafters create durable\, textured pieces with unique character and charm. This eco-friendly technique breathes new life into materials that might otherwise be wasted\, blending creativity with sustainability. \nSuitable for advanced artists or beginners of all ages\, this event offers the perfect opportunity to immerse in the art of crochet. Participants are encouraged to bring along current projects to work on or learn the basics alongside other crochet lovers.
