SUMMARY:A Glorious Cause: Archaeologist Steven D. Smith discusses Francis Marion and the Snow’s Island Community: Myth\, History\, and Archaeology
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. “A Glorious Cause” presentations begin at the Waccamaw Library (41 St. Paul Place\, Pawleys Island\, SC 29585) with South Carolina Institute of Archaeology & Anthropology Research Professor Steven D. Smith\, who will use recent archaeological findings to shed new light on how the community of Snow’s Island aided General Francis Marion\, known as the “Swamp Fox\,” to successfully implement his evasive guerrilla tactics against British and Loyalist troops in our area of South Carolina. \nThe Georgetown County Library (GCL) will host a series of 20 public educational programs and exhibits as part of “A Glorious Cause: South Carolina and the American Revolution: A Public History Initiative of the Georgetown County Library.” The programs\, which will be free and open to the public\, will take place at each of GCL’s 5 facilities across Georgetown County from March 2026 through June 2026. The project is made possible by a $39\,300 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the South Carolina State Library (SCSL).

SUMMARY:Westminster Presbyterian Church Hosting Maundy Thursday Tenebrae Service!
DESCRIPTION:The congregation of Westminster Presbyterian Church invites the community to a meaningful Maundy Thursday Service this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.\, offering a time of reflection during Holy Week. \nThe service will include a traditional Tenebrae\, a solemn and symbolic worship experience that recounts the final hours of Jesus Christ’s earthly life through Scripture and music. \nAs the service progresses\, lights are dimmed and candles are extinguished\, symbolizing the growing darkness surrounding the crucifixion. The sanctuary gradually darkens\, inviting those in attendance into a quiet and contemplative space that reflects the weight and significance of the moment. \nMaundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper and the events leading up to the crucifixion\, making it one of the most reflective services of the Christian calendar. The Tenebrae portion deepens that experience\, allowing worshippers to engage with the message in a powerful and personal way. \nThe community is invited to attend and participate in this special evening of worship as the church prepares for the hope and celebration of Easter. \nThe service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church\, located at 1387 Highway 56 South in Clinton\, and all are welcome.

SUMMARY:Family Fun: Salt Marsh Adaptations
DESCRIPTION:How do plants and animals survive in the salt marsh – a salty ecosystem that changes multiple times a day based on the tide? Organisms like fiddler crabs\, periwinkle snails\, and picklegrass have amazing adaptations! After meeting in the Discovery Center\, participants will take a bus ride to the salt marsh to search for some of these intriguing creatures. Walking in pluff mud is included! \nRecommended for ages 6 and up; children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants need to wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet and muddy (ex: rainboots) and bring another pair of shoes to change into afterwards. Participants will need to dress for the weather and bring sunscreen\, bug spray\, and water. Program is weather dependent. (Exertion level: High impact – walking on uneven terrain\, standing in direct sunlight). \n$10 per child (age 3+)\, $15 per adult.
