SUMMARY:Beyond Friendfield: Exploring Hobcaw's Enslaved Communities
DESCRIPTION:While Hobcaw Barony’s most visited historic enslaved community is Friendfield Village\, the landscape also preserves the stories of three lesser-known villages—Alderly\, Barnyard\, and Strawberry. This special guided tour explores these often-overlooked places and the people who called them home. Visit the historic Friendfield Village Church\, the ruins of a rice mill\, a one-room schoolhouse\, and land once owned by Joseph and Theodosia Burr Alston. Along the way\, historical photographs and firsthand accounts help bring each community to life\, revealing the rich history\, resilience\, and enduring legacy of the families who lived and worked at Hobcaw Barony. \nParticipants will need to dress for the weather\, wear closed-toe shoes and bring sunscreen\, bug spray and water. Program is weather dependent. (Exertion level: Moderate impact – standing and walking on uneven terrain) \n$35 per person. Reservations required: hobcawbarony.org/events(opens in new tab) \nPlease note that tour participants travel via a 12-person passenger bus on rustic roads comprised of sand and dirt. Often\, the roads are extremely rough and rutted\, a situation which will jostle riders on the bus. Although the staff at Hobcaw Barony tries to keep them smooth\, due to changeable weather and other factors\, the condition of the rural roadways cannot be guaranteed to be smooth.

SUMMARY:Paths to the Past Camp at Hobcaw Barony
DESCRIPTION:Offered for the first time\, this winter camp will enable 4th graders through 8th graders to explore the outdoors while learning about Hobcaw Barony from indigenous times to the present day. Forest hikes\, examinations of historic structures\, and other adventures will blend history with ecology. Kids will travel to a different location each day to focus on people and events from 1) Pre-colonization and Colonization\, 2) Bernard Baruch Era\, 3) Belle Baruch Era\, and 4) Modern Day. \nIn January\, registered participants will receive an email request regarding required paperwork (health forms). SUMMARY:Trail Ride with Your Own Horse at Hobcaw Barony
DESCRIPTION:This is an opportunity for individuals of all ages to bring their own horse(s) and ride a designated trail at Hobcaw Barony. Riders will have the experience of exploring part of the 16\,000 acres with maps that highlight points of interest. \nCheck-in time runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm; all horses\, trailers and their owners must depart by 5:00 pm. Please complete the online waiver when making a reservation; a link to the waiver will be sent in the confirmation email for forwarding to others in the group.
