First United Way of the Midlands Young Leaders Society Social Event of 2009 is a Success

February 16, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – January 28, 2009 –  About 40 YLS members and non-members gathered for a wine tasting in a private room at Solstice Kitchen and Wine Bar in Northeast Columbia on January 28, 2009.

Young Leaders Society social events are meant to foster participation, commitment, growth and education of members and prospective members. Meeting outside of the workplace gives young professionals a chance to establish new, meaningful relationships in a relaxed setting.

At this event, Solstice provided six different kinds of wine for guests to sample throughout the evening. Following the event, the restaurant offered dinner specials and half-price bottles of wine to those who chose to stay for a meal.

Social events such as this one really help foster a stronger community among YLS members that make our other events, whether volunteering or professional development, all the more enjoyable and productive, said Graem Clark, YLS Social Sub-Committee Chair. We can share with each other our thoughts about the community and the responsibilities of young leaders all while enjoying a few glasses of wine.

It’s great to see so many young professionals have a chance to mingle after work one day in a casual, laid-back environment, said Carroll Williamson. Plus, the wine was good and for my wife and I, it was just nice to get away from the kids for a couple of hours.
