American Heart Association to celebrate the generosity of the Midlands community during Annual Heart Ball Keeping the Beat

COLUMBIA , SC – April 16, 2009 –  The Midlands Heart Ball event raises funds for cardiovascular research, education and advocacy programs by the American Heart Association. Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of people in the United States today. Nearly 2,400 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day – one death in every 37 seconds.  Though progress has been made in the reduction of coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood and cholesterol, the lack of physical activity and an increase in obesity and uncontrolled hypertension continue to be areas of major concern.

Celebrated as one of the most elegant evenings of the year, the 19th Annual Heart Ball, Keeping The Beat will be no exception. You will enjoy exquisite decor, an elegant evening of dining and dancing, as well as a live and silent auction.  This social event is really a party with a life-saving purpose-building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

This year’s event will be chaired by Doctors Myron and Linda Bell.

We support the American Heart Association’s goal to find funding for research, for continuing education for physicians and for community based educational outreach to decrease cardiovascular disease, says Dr. Linda Bell.

Dr. Myron Bell adds, To those who contributed money, goods and services during this difficult economic time, we recognize your sacrifice and we thank you.

The Midlands Heart Ball accomplishes three goals:

  • Raises money for cardiovascular research and education
  • Builds awareness and understanding of the American Heart Association
  • Provides promotional avenues for our local partners

The AHA is proud of the progress this country has made, but the work is not done, heart disease and stroke are still the #1 and the #3 cause of death in the United States.  And several major risk factors for both are still too high and several are currently on the rise – warranting continued efforts in educating Americans about the importance of taking care of their health.

This years Midlands Heart Ball will be different from any Heart Ball you’ve seen in the past, says Joanna Hiller, Heart Ball Director. Our focus is on creating an intimate, elegant experience for our donors and corporate sponsors. We are so thankful for their unwavering support and dedication to the fight against heart disease.
