Midlands Residents Will Come Together to Serve the Community
April 21, 2009United Way of the Midlands Day of Action set for April 24
COLUMBIA, SC – April 20, 2009 – More than ever, an increasing number of Midlands’ residents need a helping hand, and on April 24, everyone is invited to join United Way of the Midlands for a Day of Action.
Religious groups, students, co-workers and families have signed up for various volunteer projects at non-profit agencies that could use some extra help.
On this particular Friday, people will be sorting food at the newly opened Harvest Hope food pantry in Cayce. Some volunteers will be getting their hands dirty and helping with yard work and landscaping at St. Lawrence Place and the Free Medical Clinic. Others will head to Lexington to help the Girl Scouts with painting and other building repairs.
These are only a few of the projects that are lined up for this community-wide day of service, and it is not too late to get involved.
Times are tough right now for everyone, and people in the Midlands have responded by giving of their time, energy and resources, said Eric Roberts, United Way of the Midlands Volunteer Center Manager. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that a few hours of your time can make a significant impact, but when you look into the faces of the people you are helping, it makes you realize that a little bit really does go a long way.
