DESCRIPTION:Charleston County Parks is hosting their second Silent Dance Party event for ages 8 and up in McClellanville on Friday\, Dec. 20! \nThis unique party experience will go from 5 – 7 p.m.\, and will be held at the gym of the Lincoln Regional Center\, located at 714 Lincoln Road in McClellanville. \n \nAll guests to the Silent Dance Party will wear wireless glowing headphones. Two live DJs will play a variety of music\, and attendees will have the ability to switch between the two musical genres. Water and snacks will be available for participants to enjoy during the event outside of the gym area; however\, no food is allowed in the gym. \nHeadphones will be provided on site by Quiet Kingz at no additional cost. Participants will not be permitted to bring their own headphones to the event. \nEarly registration is $4 per person. DESCRIPTION:Johns Island County Park hosts annual family-friendly bluegrass festival \nJoin Charleston County Parks for a countryside fall celebration! The 2024 Harvest Festival is set for Saturday\, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at beautiful Johns Island County Park. \n \nThe Harvest Festival is known for its showcase of Charleston’s own bluegrass talent\, with local bands playing throughout the day. The festival kicks off with a demo from the City of Charleston’s Mounted Police at 11 a.m.\, and live music will begin at 12 p.m. This year’s musical lineup is: \n12 – 1:30 p.m.: The Blue Plantation Band \n1:45 -3:15 p.m.: YeeHaw Junction \n3:30 – 5 p.m.: New Ghost Town \nAnd of course\, no Harvest Festival would be complete without a feast! A variety of food vendors will be on site\, selling barbeque\, kettle corn and all your beloved festival treats\, plus plenty of cold beverages. \nFestival-goers are also encouraged to stop by the crafters’ market\, which features a variety of hand-made items from local craft and merchandise vendors that make perfect holiday gifts. Families will find activities to keep the kids occupied including hayrides\, kids’ fall arts and crafts\, and pumpkin painting. \nCharleston County Parks has partnered with Kulture City to offer sensory inclusive accommodations at the event\, including sensory bags\, to help any guest with sensory needs. A quiet area will also be available on site behind the park’s barn. Participants are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes in anticipation of the costume contest to be held after the fun run. Registration includes a custom trick-or-treating bag\, finisher medal\, and candy. \n \nThe Boo Fest begins after the fun run\, walk and stroll\, and includes ghoulish music\, trick-or-treating\, jump castles\, face painting\, and a craft. Food and drink will be available for additional purchase. \nA costume contest will also be held during the Boo Fest. Prizes will be awarded for the best Halloween costume in the following age categories: Under 6\, 6-8\, 9-10\, 11-15\, 16-20 and 20 and up. Awards will also be presented for the best pet costume\, best duo costume\, and best group costumes of 3 or more. \nAdmission to the race and event will be per vehicle of up to 15 people. Advance registration is $20 per vehicle and ends Wednesday\, Oct. 23. If not sold out\, registration will be available on-site for $25 per vehicle. This live music event at Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park on Sunday\, October 13 will feature Idlewild Revival\, a musical tribute to the Allman Brothers. \nGates will open at 11 a.m. Matt Jordan and Jeff Bateman will open the show in the park starting at 12 p.m.\, and Idlewild Revival will perform on stage from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. \nHeld in a family-friendly festival atmosphere in Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park\, this concert will also feature food trucks and craft vendors. \nConcert admission will be charged per vehicle\, so groups of guests should arrive together in the same vehicle. Standard sized vehicles of up to 15 people will be $20 per vehicle in advance\, or $30 per car the day of\, if available. Gold Pass holders will receive free admission at the gate (one vehicle of up to 15 people per Gold Pass presented on site; no ticket required). Parking is limited at Palmetto Islands County Park\, so a limited number of tickets will be sold and the event could sell out in advance. DESCRIPTION:Cultural History Fundraiser featuring the Charleston Symphony \nThe Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s (CCPRC) nonprofit partner\, the Charleston County Parks Foundation\, will host an Evening at McLeod on Saturday\, Sept. 28. This fundraising event\, held at McLeod Plantation Historic Site\, benefits the foundation’s Cultural History Fund. \nFrom 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.\, Evening at McLeod will offer drinks\, light hors d’oeuvres from Carolima’s Lowcountry Cuisine\, and will feature local African American artists. A highlight of the event will be a performance from the Charleston Symphony Brass ensemble\, who will play musical selections to accompany the powerful story of Mr. William Dawson and his transition from slavery to freedom to military service. Alphonso Brown and the Mt. Zion Spiritual Singers will also perform throughout the evening. \n \nWilliam Dawson was an enslaved man who lived with his family at McLeod Plantation. He and nine others self-emancipated in 1862. Guests to the event will hear the amazing story of Mr. Dawson and his life during and after his time at McLeod Plantation. \nEvening at McLeod is a fundraiser in support of the Charleston County Parks Foundation’s Cultural History Fund. This fund aids cultural and historical research\, preservation\, interpretation\, and education for diverse audiences with an emphasis on underrepresented histories at this site and throughout Charleston County Parks. \nTickets are $75 per person and include drinks and food.
