DESCRIPTION:Experience the tastes and traditions of Charleston’s Latin American community \nCelebrate Charleston’s vibrant Latin and Caribbean cultures at the Latin American Festival\, Sunday\, Oct. 5 at Wannamaker County Park\, from 12 – 5 p.m.! \nCharleston County Parks invites you to immerse yourself in the authentic music\, dance and food found throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. This annual festival brings people together to celebrate Charleston’s vibrant Latin cultures through non-stop merengue\, reggaeton\, bachata and salsa music; folkloric artwork and crafts; and authentic foods. A variety of food vendors will be on site selling Latin and Caribbean foods and desserts\, from flavorful empanadas to tasty arroz con pollo. \nGates to the event open at 12 p.m.\, and the entertainment schedule is: \n1 p.m.: Rumbao Latin Dance Group\n1:45 p.m.: Furia Tropikal\n3 p.m.: Salsa Contest with DJ Luigi\n3:45 p.m.: Magic Juan \nChildren’s games and an educational area will also be presented by the Charleston County Public Library. Food\, beverages and souvenirs will be available for purchase for an additional fee. \nAdmission to the Latin American Festival is $20 per vehicle in advance (up to 15 people per vehicle) or $25 per vehicle at the event gate. Gold Pass holders are admitted free. No outside food\, alcohol or coolers permitted. Pets are not allowed at this event. Accessible parking and accessible restrooms will be available at this event. An accessibility tent with Kulture City sensory bags for checkout will be available. \nAbout the Entertainment Lineup \n\nKicking off at 1 p.m. will be a performance by Rumbao Latin Dance\, a Charlotte-based dance group founded in 2013. The group performs salsa dance as well as Cha-Cha\, Merengue\, Bachata and Brazilian Samba.\nNorth Carolina-based Furia Tropikal will perform at 1:45 p.m. The cover band has a repertoire that includes old school hits from La Sonora Dinamita to popular reggaeton sensation Maluma with a cumbia twist.\nMusical headliner Magic Juan is a Dominican-American urban Latin pioneer\, widely known as the King of Merengue Hip Hop and the former lead rapper and singer of the group Proyecto Uno. His contributions to Latin music have earned him numerous accolades\, including the Billboard Latin Music Awards\, Premios Juventud\,and an Emmy award. Magic Juan will perform starting at 3:45 p.m.

SUMMARY:Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon\, 5K and Kids Dash
DESCRIPTION:Runners and walkers invited to explore the trails of Johns Island County Park \nCharleston County Parks welcomes runners and walkers to Johns Island County Park for the annual Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K race on Saturday\, Oct. 4. This year’s race will also feature a Kids Dash for ages 3-7. \nThe scenic course at Johns Island County Park features forest trails filled to the brim with plants and wildlife. Participants will enjoy spotting wildflowers\, plenty of critters\, lots of fall foliage\, and of course the spectacular moss-draped oak trees along the park’s trails. \nThe race course offers occasional areas of uneven terrain and varies from hard-packed trails with roots to grass. For this reason\, strollers are not recommended and dogs will not be allowed on the course. \nJohns Island County Park is located at 2662 Mullet Hall Road\, just off River Road. It sits on 738 acres and offers miles of trails for runners\, walkers and equestrians. \nRace Details \n\nThe half marathon and 5K begin at 8 a.m. Kids Dash will begin at 7:50 a.m.\nPacket pick-up is available on site from 7-7:45 a.m.\nThere will be two on-course water stations\, but pre-filled personal water bottles are also highly recommended.\nBibs are required for racers and lost bib penalties will be enforced.\nThe Kid’s Dash is an untimed event.\n\nRegistration Details \n\nRegistration is required and ends Wednesday\, Oct. 1. On-site registration will not be available.\nParticipants ages 3-7 may register for the Kids Dash; ages 8 and up can register for the 5K; and ages 10 and up may register for the half marathon.\nParticipants of the Kids Dash must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. DESCRIPTION:Live music\, drinks\, and off-leash furry friends at Yappy Hour August 28 \nWrap up the summer with your favorite drinks and your furry friends! Dogs and their owners are invited to James Island County Park on Thursday\, August 28 for Yappy Hour: an afternoon full of live music\, cold beverages\, and fun! \nYappy Hour will take place in the park’s off-leash dog park and will feature a live music performance from Molly Durnin\, a singer-guitarist based out of Charleston. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. \nBeer\, wine\, Pepsi products and Aquafina water will be available for purchase. Yappy Hour is free with park admission ($2 per person or free with the Gold Pass) and no registration is required. \nThe dog park at James Island County Park has acres for your pup to run and play. It features separate fenced-in sections for large and small dogs and a large lake where dogs can swim and play (wildlife is present so pets should be monitored closely). The park also offers a dog washing area\, water fountains\, benches and nearby restroom facilities. \nCharleston County Parks encourages all dog owners to please visit charlestoncountyparks.com to review the dog park rules as well as our suggestions for pet etiquette before visiting Yappy Hour or the dog parks.
