Last year’s Party for the Parks was attended by 1\,200 people and raised $200\,000 for park maintenance\, improvement projects\, the creation of new green spaces\, and enhancing the overall quality of parks in Charleston. Party for the Parks also funds our community programs that offer residents many fun\, educational\, and free events such as Teddy Bear Picnic\, Charleston Trees\, Summer Concert Series\, and more. This event serves as a means to engage and connect with the community\, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the city’s parks. America’s greatest art form may have been born in New Orleans\, but the Lowcountry was quite arguably one of the early incubators of jazz. One of the greatest influences on jazz history in the Holy City was the Jenkins Orphanage Band\, producing jazz greats such as William “Cat” Anderson\, Jabbo Smith\, and Freddie Green. Based on the rhythms of the Gullah/Geechee Culture\, that Lowcountry Swing can be found in some of our favorite tunes – Until I Met You\, Tuxedo Junction\, and Porgy & Bess. The Charleston Jazz Express is presented by Charleston Jazz\, a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting jazz performances and education in Charleston.
