SUMMARY:Hobcaw in Focus: Research Across the Barony
DESCRIPTION:Belle Baruch’s vision was to preserve the 16\,000 acres of Hobcaw Barony for research and education. She couldn’t have imagined the knowledge gained from her gift since her death in 1964. While visiting the salt marsh\, longleaf pine forest\, and Friendfield Village\, meet scholars from the three Baruch Institutes and Hobcaw Barony staff who will educate you on their findings. See a juvenile alligator up close\, learn about salt marsh and forestry research\, and hear fresh insights about President Franklin Roosevelt’s 1944 visit.\nParticipants will need to dress for the weather\, wear closed-toe shoes and bring sunscreen\, bug spray and water. This is a rain or shine event. (Exertion level: Moderate impact – walking on uneven terrain\, standing) \n$35 per person. Reservations required: hobcawbarony.org/events(opens in new tab) \nPlease note that tour participants travel via a 12-person passenger bus on rustic roads comprised of sand and dirt. Often\, the roads are extremely rough and rutted\, a situation which will jostle riders on the bus. Although the staff at Hobcaw Barony tries to keep them smooth\, due to changeable weather and other factors\, the condition of the rural roadways cannot be guaranteed to be smooth.
