SUMMARY:From Tide to Table: A Guided Foraging Tour at Hobcaw Barony
DESCRIPTION:Join Hobcaw Barony staff and embark on an immersive journey through three distinct ecosystems – the salt marsh\, forest\, and cultivated garden – each echoing the stories of people\, plants\, and place. This tour blends ecology with human history\, offering hands-on experience in traditional foraging and a deep dive into the ways landscapes have fed and shaped communities over centuries. Tour participants will have the opportunity to gather and discuss the historical uses for the plants and the ecology of the area. The tour ends at Belle Baruch’s Victory Garden where participants will learn about the history of the garden and enjoy a sampling of tea and tastings. \nParticipants should wear closed-toe shoes\, dress for the weather (and the possibility of biting insects)\, and bring a water bottle and bug spray. This is a rain or shine event. (Exertion level: Moderate impact – walking on uneven ground\, standing) \n$35 per person. Reservations required: hobcawbarony.org/events(opens in new tab) \nPlease note that tour participants travel via a 12-person passenger bus on rustic roads comprised of sand and dirt. Often the roads are extremely rough and rutted\, a situation which will jostle the riders on the bus. Although the staff at Hobcaw Barony tries to keep them smooth\, due to changeable weather and other factors\, the condition of the rural roadways cannot be guaranteed to be smooth.
