DESCRIPTION:A series of guided tours and educational events focused on two significant Revolutionary War battlefields in Laurens County is scheduled for Saturday\, June 6\, beginning at the Laurens County Museum. \nRevolutionary War lecturer and battlefield preservationist Durant Ashmore will lead the day’s programming\, which kicks off at 9 a.m. with a lecture on the history and controversies surrounding the South Carolina state flag. A tour of a public Native Plant Garden follows at 10:30 a.m.\, with battlefield tours beginning at 11 a.m. \nThe full schedule is as follows: \n9 a.m. — S.C. Flag lecture\, Laurens County Museum\n10:30 a.m. — Native Plant Garden tour\, 1503 Green Plain Rd\, Clinton\n11 a.m. — Hammond’s Old Store battlefield tour\, 1503 Green Plain Rd.\, Clinton\nNoon — Hayes Station battlefield tour\, 455 Williams Rd.\, Clinton\nAttendees may participate in the full morning of events or select individual programs based on their schedules. \nHammond’s Old Store was the site of an overwhelming Patriot victory just 18 days before the Battle of Cowpens\, one of the turning points of the Revolutionary War in the South. Hayes Station\, which took place one month after the British surrender at Yorktown\, is remembered as one of the most horrific acts carried out by Loyalist militia leader Bloody Bill Cunningham. \nThe events are open to the public.
