SUMMARY:Firefly Viewing at the Swampside Tract - Cypress Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a firefly viewing!  These beetles are not flies at all and don’t produce fire either but rather are bioluminescent!  They have an organ on the underside of their bellies that produces a flashing light used to attract a mate or to deter predictors. \nWe will arrive to the preserve before dark and make our way to the Swampside Trail where you can set up a chair or blanket to observe the insects. We will take a hike along the trails after setting up chairs until 9:00 while we wait for full darkness. \nThe gates open at 7:30 and the guided hike starts at 8:00.  We’ll be back to our chairs by 9:00 for full darkness. The gate is locked at 8:00pm and latecomers will not be admitted. Admission is free but space is limited to 20 participants. \nTHIS EVENT WILL BE CANCELED IF IT IS RAINING.
