SUMMARY:The Sound of Music at Town Theatre
DESCRIPTION:“Let’s start at the very beginning… a very good place to start!” Don’t miss the kickoff to Town Theatre’s 104th season with The Sound of Music. When postulant Maria Rainer proves too high-spirited for the religious life\, she is sent to serve as a governess for the seven von Trapp children. Her rapport grows with the children as she encourages them to put aside their uniforms and marching for a life filled with music and love. Her fondness also grows for their father\, a widowed Captain\, which leaves Maria to struggle between her calling to become a Nun and her desire to be a wife. \nAt the ship’s helm is Tracy Steele (Elf\, A Christmas Story) as Captain Georg von Trapp. Following his military-like family rules\, or so he thinks\, are his seven children (actually 14 with this production’s dual casts of children). Molly Adams\, Gemma Burkett\, Mary Jayne Davis\, Hudson Freeman\, Carly Grosse\, Zachary Hammond\, Olivia Hite\, Benjamin McIver\, Porsha Owen\, Brooke Rowe\, Emily Smith\, Lacie Walko\, Sadie Way and Jackson Wright alternate as stars of the Von Trapp brood. \nThe role of Maria is taken by Ivy Munnerlyn (24 Hour Musical). Town newcomer Becky Loar brings wisdom and guidance as the Mother Abbess with Ashley Alvarado (Jekyll & Hyde) and Joel Yarborough (The Music Man) adding dimension as the filthy rich baroness Elas Schraeder and greedy Uncle Max. \nTown is certainly alive with The Sound of Music! \nThe show runs September 8-24 with 7:30 PM performances Thursdays through Saturdays and 3:00 PM Sunday matinees. Tickets go on sale to the public Monday\, August 28. Visit towntheatre.com for details. \nThe Sound of Music is directed by Jane Cato\, with musical direction by Michael Simmons and choreography by Katie Hilliger Page. Billy Bishop serves as costumer with set design by Bob Branham\, light design by Jeremy Hansard and stage management from Chelsey Art. The Sound of Music is generously sponsored by Bilt Rite Overhead Garage Door and Willis Tax & Accounting.

SUMMARY:Follow Town’s Yellow Brick Road with The Wizard of Oz
DESCRIPTION:“We’re off to see the Wizard… the wonderful Wizard of Oz!” And we want YOU to join us on the journey. \nDonning those famous ruby reds as Dorothy Gale from Kansas is Sarah Hoffman (Joseph…). Along the way she\, and Toto\, played by Ellie Matthews (The Little Mermaid Jr.) meet the brainless Scarecrow\, taken by David LaTorre (The Music Man)\, the heartless Tin Man\, portrayed by Hans Boeschen (Jekyll & Hyde) and the courage-less Cowardly Lion\, played by Davis Herndon (The All Night Strut). Their efforts to meet the Great and Powerful Oz\, in the hands of Town newcomer Manny Moitoso\, are often hijacked by the fiendish foe\, none other than the Wicked Witch herself\, portrayed by Carol Beis (A Christmas Story: The Musical). Thank goodness for the magic of Glinda\, the Good Witch of the North\, taken by Lisa Baker (Into the Woods). Throw in a humorous Guard\, in the capable hands of Todd Gustafson (Bright Star)\, some miraculous munchkins (portrayed by a bevy of talented young people) and amazing dancing in the form of tornados and poppies and jitterbugs\, oh my! Plus\, you’ll encounter the inhabitants of the merry old land itself ~ where we “laugh the day away!” The cast of 50+ (and some magical flying by ZFX!) is sure to make this summer one you won’t forget ~ where we go over the rainbow! \nThe Wizard of Oz is directed and choreographed by Shannon Willis Scruggs with musical direction by Katie Gatch. Billy Bishop leads the costume team\, Corey Langley served as set designed\, Isaiah Gray designed lights with stage management by Dawn Keenan. \nThe show runs July 14-30 with 7:30 PM performances Thursdays and Fridays and 3:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays.\nVisit towntheatre.com for details. \nThere’s No Place Like (Our) Home\nBe a part of Town’s efforts to support the community. Bid in our silent auction to benefit Home Works or grab a bag of Toto’s Treats benefitting the Animal Mission of the Midlands.

SUMMARY:Broadway: Limited Exposure
DESCRIPTION:Town Theatre Announces the Continuation of its 101st Season \nOne year ago\, we hit “pause” on our 101st season due to the COVID crisis. Between then and now\, the theatre was fortunate to find ways to remain engaged and active despite the moratorium on live theatre. In October 2020\, we completed the run of Mary Poppins. We welcomed actors and audiences after implementing stringent COVID guidelines including installation of air filtration systems\, limiting audience capacity\, and putting into practice a hospital-grade disinfectant protocol. We are excited that it is time to start again! \nBROADWAY: Limited Exposure will run April 16-18. Though we know that COVID could force us to change our plans without notice\, we will move forward working according to CDC guidelines for the safety of our patrons\, staff and volunteers. \nBROADWAY: Limited Exposure\nFriday\, April 16 at 7:30 PM\nSaturday\, April 17 at 7:30 PM\nSunday\, April 18 at 3:00 PM \n*virtual streaming options available \nAbout the show:\nBROADWAY: Limited Exposure delivers a unique perspective to the pandemic that we have faced during the past year. As our emcee\, Bill DeWitt (My Fair Lady)\, will reminisce and even poke a little fun at some of the realities of living in the times of COVID. Not to be outdone\, Kathy Hartzog (Driving Miss Daisy) will add her typical special touch of humor. Scott Vaughan (Willy Wonka)\, Sheldon Paschal (The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and Kathy Seppamaki (Nice Work if You Can Get It) bring their powerhouse voices to the stage. Clayton King (Mamma Mia)\, Hannah Thompson (Into the Woods) and Lanny Spires (Newsies) will delight with poignant moments through songs that touch the heart. \nAdding the married couples’ viewpoints are Adam & Jillian Bigony (both of Beauty and the Beast) and Chip & Cortlin Collins (Million Dollar Quartet; South Pacific\, respectively). And joining us from the cast of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder are Heather Hinson and Virginia Walker. Audiences will also enjoy Kerri Roberts (Mary Poppins)\, Billy Bishop (Matilda) and members of the Town Teen Troupe who will pop in to share some of their beautiful vocals. Michael Simmons (creator of Home for the Holidays and Broadway Under the Covers) has crafted this unique musical opportunity that we know you will enjoy! \nSpecial show notes:\n• The box office is open 12 noon to 5 PM weekdays. Prior to April 12\, Members may reserve tickets online via the special link OR may call the box office at 803-799-2510. Non-members may get tickets beginning Monday\, April 12. Tickets are $15 – $25.\n• There will be a streaming option for this show which you can also access with your member ticket or a paid cash ticket. You will make your reservation in the same way that you do for your regular ticket – just be sure to select or specify that you are attending the VIRTUAL option.\n• ALL THREE of the in-person cabaret performances will have a limited capacity with distanced seating.
