SCANPO Announces 12th Annual South Carolina Nonprofit Conference

COLUMBIA, SC – February 9, 2009 – The South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO) will hold its Twelfth Annual Nonprofit Conference April 29 – May 1, 2009, at the Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park in Spartanburg, S.C.  This year’s conference is presented by Denny’s, Inc.  Anyone is welcome to register for the conference. The keynote speakers include Katya Andresen, chief operating officer of Network for Good and author of Robin Hood Marketing: Stealing Corporate Savvy to Sell Just Causes, Lois Lerner director of the exempt organizations in the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division of the Internal Revenue Service and Dr. Benjamin Bernard Dunlap, president of Wofford College.

Katya Andresen will speak at the opening plenary on Wednesday, April 29.  Her talk is entitled “Surviving the Meltdown Without Having One.”  Lois Lerner will speak Thursday, April 30 at the lunch about interesting times relating to nonprofits.  Dr. Dunlap will speak Friday, May 1 at the closing plenary.

The SCANPO Annual Conference is the only statewide event where national speakers and statewide experts convene to educate and inspire our foundation leaders, corporate giving officers, nonprofit executives and professionals working daily in our communities. There will be 24 professional development workshops available throughout the three day conference with topics ranging from organizational management, grant writing, fundraising, marketing and communication, financial management and more.  There will also be site visits which explore successful public/private partnerships.

A special awards luncheon on Thursday will recognize the 2008 Excellence in Nonprofit Management recipients.  This competitive award, sponsored by Blackbaud, recognizes outstanding achievements in exemplary management practices of SCANPO’s member nonprofit organizations.  SCANPO will also deliver the 2009 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership, sponsored by Francis Marion University’s Nonprofit Leadership Institute.
