April 28, 2009One-of-a-kind Columbia dance group continues to break through traditional boundaries with new show
COLUMBIA, SC – April 27, 2009 – Unbound’s newest performance LES FEMMES will be held May 21st-23nd, 2009 with specific performances featuring a wine reception and cabaret seating. All performances will be held at the Columbia Music Festival Association Art Space (914 Pulaski Street, Columbia).
Unbound is a new way of moving with no boundaries. It is raw and undefined, athletic and passionate. It gives dancers the artistic freedom to express themselves through movement without feeling constrained to any specific genre of dance.
Unbound is the brainchild of South Carolina natives Caroline Lewis-Jones and Susan Dabney. Lewis-Jones, the artistic director of Unbound, began her dance career right here in the Midlands at The Southern Strutt. Her credits include the MTV Video Music Awards as a dancer with NSYNC, the Latin Grammy Awards, Disney Industrials, Britany Spears Me Against the Music video, and MTV’s Body Rock Fitness Video. Her true passion lies within her work done in New York City with choreographer Mia Micheals (So You Think You Can Dance judge) and Notario Dance Company. She traveled to Seoul, Korea in 2001 to perform with Jason Parsons and POZ dance theatre.
Susan Dabney, co-director of Unbound, is a professionally trained soloist and principal ballerina. Her training began at the North Carolina School of the Arts, continued at the School of American Ballet and Joffery Ballet School, both in New York City. Her professional career began with the Los Angeles Classical Ballet where she performed several soloist and principal roles in full length classical ballets. During her time in Los Angeles her commercial work included the Jay Leno show and VH1 Comedy Hour. Upon her return to South Carolina she has performed with the University of South Carolina Dance Company as principal in their Balanchine Ballets.
