SUMMARY:Revolutionary War Siege Lines Walking Tour with Director Carl Borick
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 24 | 6:00 – 7:30 PM\nJoin Carl P. Borick\, Director of The Charleston Museum and author of A Gallant Defense: The Siege of Charleston\, 1780\, as he leads a tour to some of the key points related to the Revolutionary War Siege of Charleston\, the longest siege of the war and largest battle fought in South Carolina. The area to be toured\, now an urban landscape interspersed with pleasant city parks was once the site of vicious fighting between besieging British troops and Patriot defenders during April – May 1780. Although the fortifications have long since disappeared\, Borick will highlight notable features of the terrain that serve as reminders of this momentous battle. \nThe tour will begin at 6 pm\, leaving from the Museum\, for a walking tour lasting 1 – 1.5 hours. Comfortable footwear is recommended. Participants are invited to arrive early to purchase A Gallant Defense: The Siege of Charleston\, 1780 or are welcome to bring previously purchased books to have signed. \nSpace is limited. Reservations required. Cancellations must be requested 48 hours in advance for a refund minus $10 administration fee. Full registration fee may be transferred to other adult programs.  Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance will result in a forfeiture of tour fee. \n$40 Museum Members | $55 Non-Members

Join fellow crochet enthusiasts for a day of mindful and environmentally friendly creativity on March 8th\, from 10 am – 3 pm. \n \nWashington will demonstrate rag crochet and regular yarn crochet. Rag crochet is a sustainable craft that transforms discarded textiles like old clothing\, sheets\, and fabric scraps into beautiful\, functional items such as rugs\, baskets\, and blankets. By cutting fabric into strips and crocheting them together\, crafters create durable\, textured pieces with unique character and charm. This eco-friendly technique breathes new life into materials that might otherwise be wasted\, blending creativity with sustainability. \nSuitable for advanced artists or beginners of all ages\, this event offers the perfect opportunity to immerse in the art of crochet. Participants are encouraged to bring along current projects to work on or learn the basics alongside other crochet lovers. Join for the entire session to complete projects that have been on your to-do list\, or drop in for a shorter amount of time or to watch a demonstration. \nAttendees should bring their own supplies\, materials\, and yarn. If participants wish to learn rag crochet\, they should bring a size Q hook\, a king-sized sheet\, or about seven yards of repurposed fabric. A limited number of size Q hooks and sample fabric will be available. \n \nDon’t miss this chance to connect with fellow crafters and celebrate the joy of crochet at this free community event! \nThis event is FREE and open to the public.
