SUMMARY:A Musical Tapestry: Laurens County Chorale Marks 50 Years Since Its 1975 Debut Performance
DESCRIPTION:The 2025–2026 season marks the 51st season for the Laurens County Chorale\, which was founded in 1975. This year’s performances will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Chorale’s very first concert\, presented on December 15\, 1975. For more than five decades\, the ensemble has shared the beauty of choral music with Laurens County and has become a lasting part of the community’s cultural fabric. \nIn recognition of that inaugural concert\, the Chorale will revisit selections performed during its debut season. Audiences will enjoy excerpts from G.F. Handel’s “For Unto Us a Child Is Born” from The Messiah and “Praise the Lord\,” along with additional classical works by Thomas Luis de Victoria\, J.S. Bach\, Gustav Holst\, and Clarence Dickinson. \nThe celebration also features a collection of cherished holiday favorites\, including “White Christmas” and other well-loved seasonal pieces. The program offers a joyful start to the holiday season and invites the community to come together in the spirit of Christmas. \nTwo performances are scheduled:\n• Friday\, November 21 at 7:30 PM – First Presbyterian Church\, Laurens\n• Sunday\, November 23 at 4:00 PM – Westminster Presbyterian Church\, Clinton \nTickets are $10 and may be purchased from any Chorale member or at the door. \nThe Laurens County Chorale is under the leadership of Artistic Director Kipper Ackerman with Collaborative Pianist Andrew Sheffield.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a series of events highlighting faith\, service\, and a commitment to justice. \nThe observance begins with a worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday\, Jan. 19\, at First Presbyterian Church of Clinton. The Rev. Dr. British Hyrams\, the Jack and Jane Presseau Associate Chaplain at Presbyterian College\, will deliver the sermon. The Presbyterian College Choir\, directed by Kipper Ackerman\, a 1997 graduate and assistant director of admissions for fine arts\, will provide musical selections. \nOn Martin Luther King Jr. Day\, Jan. 20\, PC students will embody King’s spirit of service by participating in community projects across Laurens County. The initiatives are coordinated by Student Volunteer Services\, aiming to make a tangible difference in the local community. \nThe annual campus-wide celebration will culminate with a keynote address on Wednesday\, Jan. 22\, at 6 p.m. in Edmunds Hall. Dr. Charryse Johnson\, a nationally recognized mental health expert\, author\, and consultant\, will deliver remarks centered on the theme “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom\, Justice\, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365\,” mirroring the mission of The King Center. \nJohnson\, the founder of Jade Integrative Counseling and Wellness\, is an advocate for mental health and inclusivity. She is the author of several works\, including Expired Mindsets\, the recent guided journal Mindset Matters: Get Off the Scale and Heal and Embrace: 28 Days of Self-Love. \nHer extensive background in counseling psychology and trauma makes her a prominent voice in conversations about leadership and equity. As a clinician\, she has worked with individuals\, couples\, and families across the lifespan and is adept at helping individuals navigate challenging life transitions and identity development. \nJohnson holds bachelor’s degrees in both vocal music and human development and family studies\, a master’s in professional counseling\, and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology\, with a concentration in crisis and trauma. As an executive wellness consultant\, she supports non-profits\, educational institutions\, and corporations looking to develop strategic initiatives that center on leadership\, inclusivity\, and mental health. \nJohnson is a frequent advocate and advisor for national radio shows and news stations in Charlotte\, N.C.\, and the surrounding areas. Blue Christmas\, (also called the Longest Night) in the Western Christian tradition\, is a day in the Advent season marking the longest night of the year. On this day\, some churches in Western Christian denominations hold a church service that honors people that have lost loved ones and are experiencing grief. First Presbyterian Church of Clinton will hold a Blue Christmas Worship Service on Thursday\, December 19th at 6:30 p.m. We welcome all from our community to come as you are and join with us in this meaningful service of worship which offers hope and healing for those who are grieving. Both concerts begin at 7:30 and admission is $10. \nThe concert will feature John Rutter’s Gloria for brass\, percussion\, organ\, and choir; Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett’s The Many Moods of Christmas; Five Christmas Carol settings for brass and organ by Sir David Wilcocks; and A Christmas Flourish by Randol Alan Bass. \nCome and enjoy an evening of wonderful Christmas music sung by our talented Chorale and musicians. \nIt’s time to get in the Christmas Spirit!
