DESCRIPTION:A series of guided tours and educational events focused on two significant Revolutionary War battlefields in Laurens County is scheduled for Saturday\, June 6\, beginning at the Laurens County Museum. \nRevolutionary War lecturer and battlefield preservationist Durant Ashmore will lead the day’s programming\, which kicks off at 9 a.m. with a lecture on the history and controversies surrounding the South Carolina state flag. A tour of a public Native Plant Garden follows at 10:30 a.m.\, with battlefield tours beginning at 11 a.m. \nThe full schedule is as follows: \n9 a.m. — S.C. Flag lecture\, Laurens County Museum\n10:30 a.m. — Native Plant Garden tour\, 1503 Green Plain Rd\, Clinton\n11 a.m. — Hammond’s Old Store battlefield tour\, 1503 Green Plain Rd.\, Clinton\nNoon — Hayes Station battlefield tour\, 455 Williams Rd.\, Clinton\nAttendees may participate in the full morning of events or select individual programs based on their schedules. \nHammond’s Old Store was the site of an overwhelming Patriot victory just 18 days before the Battle of Cowpens\, one of the turning points of the Revolutionary War in the South. Hayes Station\, which took place one month after the British surrender at Yorktown\, is remembered as one of the most horrific acts carried out by Loyalist militia leader Bloody Bill Cunningham. \nThe events are open to the public. SUMMARY:Revolutionary War Interpretive Performance by Robert Ryals on September 24
DESCRIPTION:History enthusiasts and the community are invited to experience a unique interpretive performance by Robert Ryals\, who will bring to life the story of Reverend William Martin at the Laurens County Museum on Tuesday\, September 24\, at 7:00 PM. This living history event\, held at 116 South Public Square\, Laurens\, offers a captivating glimpse into the life of Reverend Martin\, who led 1\,200 of his parishioners from Ireland to South Carolina in 1772\, seeking refuge from the oppression of the British monarchy. \nThrough first-person narrative\, Ryals will portray Reverend Martin’s tale of defiance against British tyranny\, his suffering under British brutality\, and his survival to tell his remarkable story. Ryals\, a living history interpreter and reenactor\, is a member of the Lancaster County Revolutionary War 250th Committee and a public historian focused on the Revolutionary War in South Carolina’s Upcountry. \nThe event is open to the public. Admission is free for museum members and those aged 18 and under. A $5 donation is suggested for all other attendees to support the museum’s educational programs. \nIn addition to special events\, the Laurens County Museum’s exhibit hall is open for free tours Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
