SUMMARY:9/11 Hero Walk
DESCRIPTION:Clinton residents will gather early on the morning of Sept. 11 to walk in remembrance of the lives lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks. \nThe 9/11 Hero Walk\, organized by Jay and Janice Long of CrossFit864\, begins at 7 a.m. at the M.S. Bailey Municipal Center\, 211 N. Broad St. Participants are asked to bring a flag and join the group as it walks through downtown Clinton. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Walkers of all ages are welcome\, and no registration is required. \n“We do this so nobody forgets\,” Jay Long said. “There are kids in this town who weren’t born yet in 2001. When they see their neighbors out here carrying flags at seven in the morning\, they start to understand what that day cost.” \nThe walk falls on the 25th anniversary of the attacks\, which killed nearly 3\,000 people at the World Trade Center in New York\, at the Pentagon in Arlington\, Virginia\, and aboard United Flight 93 near Shanksville\, Pennsylvania. Among the dead were 343 New York City firefighters\, 37 Port Authority officers and 23 New York City police officers who went into the towers as others were coming out. \n“It isn’t a race and it isn’t a workout\,” Janice Long said. “It’s a walk. Anybody can do it\, and everybody is welcome.” \nOrganizers point to a passage from Psalm 46 in describing the purpose of the morning: “God is our refuge and strength\, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear.” \nTwo words continue to anchor the observance in Clinton and across the country: Never forget.

DESCRIPTION:The Presbyterian College Chamber Winds and Wind Ensemble will present their fall concert\, Hot & Cold\, on Thursday\, November 13\, at 7:30 p.m. in Belk Auditorium. DESCRIPTION:Alumnus Lee Hunter ’94 to speak on Oct. 22 \nPresbyterian College alumnus Lee Hunter ’94\, chief operating officer of Hunter Hotel Advisors\, will return to campus on Oct. 22 to deliver the Truist Lecture on Free Enterprise\, opening the 2025–26 Presbyterian College Lecture Series. \nHis lecture begins at 7 p.m. in Edmunds Hall and is free and open to the public. \nHunter’s lecture will explore the principles of free enterprise through the lens of the hospitality industry and the real-estate finance markets that sustain it. With more than two decades of experience in hotel asset acquisition\, development\, financing\, and repositioning\, Hunter has worked with virtually every major hospitality brand—including IHG\, Hilton\, Hyatt\, and Marriott—while helping shape the investment landscape for hotels nationwide. \nAs chief operating officer of Hunter Hotel Advisors\, Hunter oversees operations across seven national offices\, including Los Angeles\, Atlanta\, and Miami. His firm has built a reputation as a leading brokerage and consulting group specializing in the sale of hotels and resorts across the United States. \nBeyond his corporate leadership\, Hunter serves as conference chair of the Hunter Hotel Investment Conference\, one of the nation’s most influential gatherings for hotel owners\, investors\, and developers. Now in its fourth decade\, the conference brings together senior industry leaders to discuss market trends\, capital structures\, and emerging opportunities in hospitality real estate. \nHunter earned his master’s degree in hotel finance and real estate from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. A respected voice in the field\, he serves on the board of directors of the Atlanta Hospitality Alliance and is recognized for his strategic insight into real-estate investment and hotel valuation. His return to PC marks a homecoming for a graduate whose career reflects innovation\, resilience\, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the liberal arts. \nDr. Booker T. Ingram Black History Month Lecture \nThe Dr. Booker T. Ingram Black History Month Lecture will feature Darrin Goss Sr.\, president and CEO of the Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina\, on Feb. 5\, 2026\, at 7 p.m. in Edmunds Hall. \nSince 2016\, Goss has led the Coastal Community Foundation (CCF)—one of the Southeast’s largest philanthropic institutions—through a period of extraordinary growth and transformation. Under his leadership\, CCF’s assets have expanded from approximately $221 million to more than $500 million\, allowing the foundation to fund initiatives that promote equity\, civic engagement\, and regional economic resilience. \nA native of James Island\, Goss brings a deep understanding of the Lowcountry’s history and culture to his work. His multi-capital approach to philanthropy—one that values moral\, intellectual\, and social capital alongside financial resources—has redefined how foundations can serve as catalysts for systemic change. \nBefore joining CCF\, Goss served as president and CEO of the Capital Area United Way in Baton Rouge\, La.\, where he led recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastating 2016 floods. He previously worked with the United Way of Greenville County and Wofford College\, his alma mater\, where he was assistant dean of students and director of career services. \nGoss earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wofford College and a master’s degree in Christian ministries from North Greenville University. He is a Liberty Fellow (Class of 2018) and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network\, affiliations that reflect his commitment to ethical leadership and civic innovation. \nA U.S. Army veteran\, former athlete\, and lifelong advocate for education\, Goss serves on the boards of MDC\, Inc.\, in Durham\, N.C.\, and the Tri-County Cradle to Career Collaborative in Charleston. \nRobert M. Vance Lecture on Business Ethics \nThe Robert M. Vance Lecture on Business Ethics will feature Matt Navarro ’99\, global president of PMI WW Brands\, LLC\, the company behind Stanley 1913\, on Feb. 12\, 2026\, at 7 p.m. in Edmunds Hall. \nNavarro’s innovative leadership has transformed Stanley 1913 into a global powerhouse and lifestyle brand known for its durable drinkware and sustainability ethos. Under his guidance\, the 110-year-old company has experienced record-breaking revenue growth and redefined its relationship with consumers through a mix of innovation\, brand storytelling\, and environmental responsibility. \nAs global president\, Navarro oversees strategy\, operations\, and partnerships for Stanley’s North American and international divisions. His tenure has included collaborations with retailers such as Target\, REI\, and Scheels\, as well as industry honors from Fast Company and the NPD Group recognizing Stanley’s meteoric rise in the consumer goods sector. \nBefore joining Stanley\, Navarro held senior leadership roles with Amer Sports\, a global corporation whose brands include Salomon\, Arc’teryx\, Peak Performance\, Atomic\, Suunto\, and Wilson. As vice president of sales for North America\, he served as a key member of the company’s senior leadership team and oversaw business development across multiple outdoor and performance brands. \nA 1999 graduate of Presbyterian College\, Navarro’s return to campus reflects the College’s enduring influence on his career. His lecture will examine how ethical decision-making and purpose-driven leadership can elevate both business success and social good. \nSamuel Calvin Waters Lecture in Political Science \nThe Samuel Calvin Waters Lecture in Political Science will conclude the series on March 5\, 2026\, at 7 p.m. in Edmunds Hall\, featuring Ben Rhodes\, political commentator\, author\, and former deputy national security advisor and speechwriter for President Barack Obama. \nRhodes was a central figure in shaping foreign policy and communication strategies during the Obama administration. He helped draft major presidential addresses\, including the historic 2009 Cairo speech\, “A New Beginning\,” and was instrumental in the diplomatic process that re-established U.S.–Cuba relations after more than five decades. \nBefore joining the White House\, Rhodes served as an assistant to former Congressman Lee Hamilton\, contributing to the Iraq Study Group Report and the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. A graduate of Rice University with a master’s in creative writing from New York University\, he began his career in speechwriting and foreign-policy analysis after working on New York City political campaigns. \nFollowing his time in government\, Rhodes became a leading public voice on global democracy and U.S. foreign policy. He is the author of two New York Times bestsellers—The World as It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House (2018) and After the Fall: Being American in the World We’ve Made (2021)—and serves as co-chair of National Security Action with Jake Sullivan. \nRhodes is also a contributor to NBC News\, MSNBC\, and Crooked Media\, where he co-hosts the popular foreign policy podcast Pod Save the World. DESCRIPTION:Presbyterian College president Dr. Anita Gustafson will discuss the transformative victories that women have made in higher education during the Women’s History Month lecture\, “Boisterous and Bold: Women in Higher Education.” \nThe Women’s History Month lecture will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday\, March 6\, in Belk Auditorium. \nMaking history herself as PC’s first female president\, Gustafson will elucidate the bold strides female trailblazers have made over the last 250 years that impact women’s rights and higher education. A staunch advocate of women’s rights\, she will also share the inspiring milestones made by women at colleges and universities across the U.S.\, including PC itself. \nGustafson became PC’s 20th president last summer after serving as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Mercer University in Macon\, Ga.\, from 2016-23. She taught history at PC from 1997 until her departure for Mercer in 2016. While at PC\, she also served as interim provost from 2010-2012\, interim dean of academic programs from 2005-2007\, and history department chair from 2000-2004. Gustafson held a number of faculty leadership roles at PC as well\, including chair of the Senior Faculty Council and chair of the PC Launch Program for Vocation\, Leadership\, and Service. \nGustafson’s teaching and scholarly interests include American immigration history\, Swedish immigration\, and the history of American women. \nGustafson earned her doctorate and master’s degrees in history from Northwestern University in Evanston\, Ill. She holds a bachelor’s degree with majors in economics and Swedish and a minor in history from North Park University in Chicago. \nGustafson and her husband\, Charles\, have one son\, Karl\, who is a graduate student in global sustainability at the University of Helsinki\, Finland.

This event promises an afternoon filled with science experiments\, demonstrations\, refreshments\, and enjoyable yard games for the entire community to enjoy. \nOrganized by the PC chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS)\, Science Community Day aims to bring together individuals of all ages and backgrounds for an interactive and entertaining exploration of science. The event is open to everyone\, making it an ideal opportunity for families\, students\, and science enthusiasts to come together and celebrate the wonders of the scientific world. \nThe East Plaza of Presbyterian College\, where the event is set to take place\, offers a convenient outdoor space for attendees to enjoy the festivities. In case of inclement weather\, Science Community Day will be relocated to the Mabry Smith Yonce Center. The Yonce Center\, located at 5th Ave\, Clinton\, SC 29325\, will provide ample space for all the planned activities. \nThe lineup for Science Community Day includes a variety of science experiments and demonstrations that are sure to captivate the audience. The event will also feature yard games such as cornhole\, kan-jam\, connect 4\, and more. Additionally\, there will be refreshments available\, including pizza and drinks. \nParking for the event is easy with designated signs and volunteers stationed around the East Plaza to direct cars into the proper parking lots and spaces. \nWhether you are a science enthusiast\, a curious community member\, or a family looking for a unique Sunday afternoon outing\, Science Community Day at Presbyterian College provides a fun opportunity.
