SUMMARY:The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night 2024
DESCRIPTION:At The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night we gather as a community to celebrate\, honor\, and remember those touched by blood cancers. Friends\, families\, schools\, corporate teams\, and sponsors join together to bring light to the darkness of cancer. The funds raised by this community fund lifesaving research\, advocacy and support for blood cancer patients and their families. Join us in the fight to cure cancer! \nParking Logistics: Bagged meters on Sumter Street\, Senate Street\, and Assembly Street. Three City of Columbia parking decks within 1600 feet of the State House\, for additional information click here. \nOpening Ceremony/Walk: 7:00 PM\, walk begins immediately after opening ceremony. \nHow long is the walk? Approximately 1 mile. \nWhat is allowed at the event? \n\nService Animals\nStrollers\nWheelchairs\n\nIs there a bag policy? No\, there is not a bag policy. \nCan participants turn in donations at the event? Cash and checks will not be accepted at the walk\, but there will be ways to donate digitally the night of the event. All other donations can be sent to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Georgia – South Carolina Region\, PO Box 22443\, New York\, NY\, 10087-2443. \nWill there be food? Yes! Food trucks will be parked along Sumter Street for purchase. \nWhat if it rains on the event day? The in-person event is rain or shine. \nIs the event appropriate for children? Yes! Light The Night is a multi-generational event! \nHow can I pick up a lantern? All registered participants receive a lantern to be picked up at the Lantern Tent at the walk. \nDo kids need to register? Children 12 years old and younger do not need to register but must be accompanied by an adult to receive a lantern at the event. \nHow do I get a T-shirt? All registered participants who raise $100+ on their individual fundraising page will receive a t-shirt that can be picked up at the walk. \nWhat incentives are there for reaching fundraising milestones? \n\n$10\,000- Team tent with 10×2′ banner displaying team name\n$1\,000 – Individuals raising this amount are Bright Lights\, and will receive a long-sleeve shirt and get exclusive access to the VIP Tent at the event\n$100 – Become a Champion for a Cure to receive the official t-shirt\n\n\nIt is highly recommended that all blood cancer patients or other immunocompromised individuals check with their healthcare provider before attending this event. While at the event\, we urge our community to respect anyone’s choice to continue to take precautions like masking or social distancing. \nThere will also be a virtual event experience provided for any participants who would prefer to not join us in-person\, held on November 19\, 2024. \nWe acknowledge some participants might need ADA accommodations. We do our best to provide these accommodations at every location\, however\, depending on weather and venues\, it may be difficult for participants using wheelchairs to move freely around all areas of specific walk sites. If you have questions or need support\, please call us at 888-557-7177 in advance to discuss accommodations. Meeting the needs of all participants is very important to the Light The Night experience.

Research conducted by LLS and others has shown that some blood cancer patients do not get optimal protection from COVID-19 vaccination and may continue to have heightened susceptibility to contracting and becoming ill from COVID-19. While at the event\, we urge our community to respect anyone’s choice to continue to take precautions like masking or social distancing. \nThere will also be a virtual event experience provided for any participants who would prefer to not join us in-person\, held on November 15\, Details to come in emails to all registered participants in early November. \nIN-PERSON EVENT \nParking: Street parking \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS \n5:30 PM – Festival Activities Begin\n7:00 PM – Walk Begins (immediately after Opening Ceremony)\n8:00 PM – Finale
