SUMMARY:Creating (and Combating) Addictive User Experiences
DESCRIPTION:Social media sites are meant to be addictive\, and that isn’t accidental. It’s not a user’s fault they have fallen into an endless pit of scrolling. \nThe Truth Behind Social Media Addiction\nAlthough social media can be a positive medium\, the harm still outweighs the benefits. Social media’s user experience has caused a rise in anxiety\, stress\, fear of missing out (FOMO)\, loneliness\, and addiction. \nKimanh Le\, a 2nd year PhD student in health promotion\, education\, and behavior at the University of South Carolina\, uncovers why poor mental health has increased exponentially\, especially in children and young adults. \nKimanh will lay bare psychological and social reasons why some users are more addicted to social media than others\, the role design plays in shaping their behavior\, and discuss ways to avoid creating addictive designs. \nCost: FREE\nCome meet other UX folks\, and enjoy pizza and beer on the house. \nAgenda\n6:00-6:30pm: Meet and Greet\n6:30-7:00pm: Presentation\n7:00pm-7:30pm: Questions and Wrap-Up \nVenue\nSOCO 80808 – 808 Lady St in the Vista \nAbout Kimanh Le\nKimanh’s work involves examining mental and physical health in college students and how social media plays a role in shaping their behaviors. Aside from working on her degree\, she is also a user experience researcher in training working on projects related to AI.
