To purchase tickets\, click HERE. \nThe musical follows the story of Jane and her mother\, Delilah\, as both women are forced to confront profound questions of guilt\, responsibility\, and sacrifice when Jane must decide between attending college in pursuit of her lifelong dreams\, or staying home to care for Delilah – who is locked in a desperate battle with severe mental illness and opioid addiction. \nNashville-based singer-songwriter Colleen Francis wrote the music and lyrics for the show\, with additional music and lyrics by Hailee Beltzhoover Zuniga and Bill Zeffiro. Francis Fichter and Sean Riehm co-wrote the book\, and Terrance Henderson will choreograph. \nHannah Bonnett\, who just closed a starring turn Off-Broadway as Ivanka Trump in Five: The Parody Musical\, and previously led the National Tour of Legally Blonde as Elle Woods\, will star as Jane in the upcoming production. Full casting will be announced in the coming weeks. \nDandelion previously received its concert premiere in 2019 as part of the New Musicals concert series at 54 Below\, followed by an Equity reading with Thousand Faced Theatre Company in the winter of 2020. DESCRIPTION:Trustus Theatre\, the home for relevant\, innovative\, and inclusive theatrical works in Columbia\, South Carolina\, is excited to present Blues for an Alabama Sky by Pearl Cleage\, opening on March 15th on the Thigpen Mainstage. The play features 5 actors\, 4 of whom have not been seen on the Trustus stage before. \nThe play brings together a rich cast of characters who reflect the conflicting currents of the time through their overlapping personalities and politics. Set in the Harlem apartment of Guy (Lamont Gleaton)\, a popular costume designer\, and his friend\, Angel (Katrina Garvin)\, a recently fired Cotton Club back-up singer\, the cast also includes Sam (William Paul Brown)\, a hard-working\, jazz-loving doctor at Harlem Hospital; Delia (Courtney Sims)\, an equally dedicated member of the staff at the Sanger clinic; and Leland (Samuel James Pygatt)\, a recent transplant from Tuskegee\, who sees in Angel a memory of lost love and a reminder of those “Alabama skies where the stars are so thick it’s bright as day.” \nWhen asked about the play\, Director Terrance Henderson says “I have loved this script for many years. The language of the play is so full of life and captures the essence of a moment in history full of considerable transition and change socially\, politically\, and culturally.  It’s fascinating how parallel 1930 feels to 2024 and illuminates a cyclical paradox of humankind to repeat our mistakes. It begs the question of ‘When will we ever learn?’ The advances we’ve made as a society\, especially in terms of technology\, have not brought us to the same evolution of our understanding of ourselves as human beings. It answers the ‘why this play’ and ‘why now’ questions easily for me in that it reveals and shows us ourselves in hopes that we move forward with more clarity\, understanding and acceptance of who we are and our collective humanity. It’s about the tenacity of the human spirit and the power of dreaming in the midst of life happening to and around us. Running September 30th through October 29th\, this spooky\, sensual fan-favorite is directed and choreographed by Trustus Company member Terrance Henderson and musically directed by Company Emeritus Chris Cockrell with company member Walter Graham returning to the role of Frank’N’Furter. Rocky Horror marks the seventh time the show has been produced by Trustus\, 30 years after the original production. The show is sponsored by Top Hat Sweepers\, Z Realty\, and Marketing Performance. \nStuck with a flat tire during a storm\, newly engaged love birds Brad and Janet find themselves at the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank’N’Furter. What follows is a “strange journey” full of wild characters\, huge musical numbers\, and fan-favorite moments that are sure to please. This out-of-this-world classic will leave audiences dancing\, laughing\, and shivering with antici…pation. The Rocky Horror Show inspired the 1974 film of the same name. With book\, music and lyrics by Richard O’Brien\, The Rocky Horror Show is an interactive rock musical. Audiences are encouraged to dress in costume and yell “callouts” back at the cast throughout the show. Trustus will also be selling participation kits that include playing cards\, newspapers\, toilet paper\, and more. The audience is welcome to use their props during specific moments in the show\, making it a communal experience for cast and patrons alike. (Trustus does not allow outside props into the theatre.) \n Trustus is proud to partner with Twisted Spur Brewing for a dinner package that includes a three course dinner and a ticket to Rocky Horror. On select nights in October\, enjoy a fixed menu with lots of delicious options before your performance of Rocky Horror.
