Garvin Design Group welcomes four summer interns

June 12, 2024

Garvin Design Group (GDG) recently welcomed four summer interns to the firm’s ranks. Clemson University School of Architecture undergraduate students Wendy Favila, Carlos Richardson, Kelsey Simmons, and Charles (Charlie) Treadway began summer internships with the firm earlier this year. All four are current students at the Clemson University School of Architecture.

Wendy Favila graduated salutatorian from Swansea High School in 2022 and just completed her second year of undergraduate studies. In addition to her major in Architecture, Wendy is pursuing a minor in Construction Science & Management and is active in Clemson’s Integrated Path to Architecture Licensure (IPAL) program. Outside of the studio, Wendy is an integral part of her family’s business, Los Chicanos Food Truck. She spearheads the food truck’s marketing efforts and assists behind the counter as needed.

Carlos Richardson returns to the firm for a second internship following his junior year at Clemson. Richardson first joined GDG as a summer intern in 2023 following an internship with Hood Construction. Carlos’ curiosity about the world inspired him to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain in the spring of 2024. His semester in Europe has sparked new plans for future international travel. Carlos anticipates graduating from Clemson’s School of Architecture in December 2024.

Kelsey Simmons grew up in Chapin and is a rising senior at Clemson majoring in Architecture with a minor in Community Development and City Planning. Visits to Southern Living magazine’s Home of the Year and the Biltmore Estate sparked Kelsey’s interest in architecture. She is actively engaged in the Clemson chapter of the American Institute of Architects Students (AIAS), the Chik-Fil-A Club, and various intramural sports. Kelsey’s studies will take her to the Clemson Villa in Genoa, Italy this fall.

Charlie Treadway hails from the Dallas, Texas area and recently completed his third year at Clemson, majoring in Architecture with a minor in Business. Actively involved in campus life, Charlie is a member of the AIAS and served on the Student Government’s Freshman Council. He has a deep appreciation for diverse architectural styles and aspires to specialize in Spanish, Japanese, and Post American Traditional Architecture.

“We are lucky to have such a full house this summer,” said Scott Garvin, President of Garvin Design Group. “Every intern brings something new and special to our team, and that’s especially true of this year’s group. We can’t wait to help them get started in the profession.”
