June 26, 2024

In a decisive victory, Justin Lane of Joanna defeated incumbent David Tribble in the Republican Primary runoff on Tuesday, securing the nomination to represent District 7 on the Laurens County Council. Lane garnered 67% of the vote, with a final tally of 721 to 355.

With the GOP nomination in hand, Lane is set to run unopposed in the General Election. “I’m thankful to the people of District 7 for their support and vote,” Lane expressed on Tuesday night. “I have enjoyed the months of door knocking and front porch conversations with constituents, and I look forward to representing them on county council.”

Lane’s campaign proved successful in four out of the six precincts within District 7, with significant victories in two of the largest precincts: Clinton 3 (228-86) and Joanna (267-30).

Tribble, a seasoned businessman, has a long history of public service, having previously served as mayor of Clinton, County Councilman (prior to the current term), and SC House Representative.

The need for a runoff election arose after the June 11 GOP Primary ended in a tie, with each candidate receiving exactly 647 votes.

The South Carolina Board of Elections will certify the runoff election results later this week.
