Laurens County Names Sonny Ledda as Emergency Management Director

Laurens County has hired Sonny Ledda as Laurens County Emergency Management Director, effective October 15, 2024. Mr. Ledda has served in a law enforcement capacity for over 25 years, on top of a successful military career. His experience includes roles as the Chief of Police for the City of Bishopville, the Chief of Police for the City of Laurens and the Chief of Police for the City of Clinton. He has attended the FBI Command College, the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Narcotics Commander School, the SC Fire Academy, FEMA Professional Development, Harvard (Kennedy School of Government) and is a Furman University Riley Fellow. Ledda has also been extremely active in the Laurens County community with involvement in Rotary, Habitat for Humanity, Laurens County SAFE Home, NAACP, Little League, United Way, Boy Scouts of America, VFW, and the American Legion. 

Sonny Ledda stated: “After a rewarding and fulfilling 25-year law enforcement career, I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Laurens County as the next Director of Laurens County Emergency Management. I am grateful to Laurens County Council and Laurens County Administration for entrusting me to be a member of the EMA team!” 

Laurens County Administrator Thomas Higgs stated: “When I was hired as the Laurens County Administrator, I was tasked with building an all-star team. I’ve had the privilege of working with Mr. Ledda’s leadership at the City of Bishopville, the City of Clinton and now Laurens County. Mr. Ledda possesses the leadership and the knowledge to continue the progression of Laurens County’s Emergency Management program into the future. He has the task of making Laurens County the ‘tip of the spear’ amongst our county counterparts, while expanding the leadership of our current staff. Sonny Ledda is the person for the job.” 

Laurens County Council Chairman Brown Patterson stated: “Laurens County continues to make strategic decisions that position us to be considered one of the pace-setting counties in the entire Southeast. The addition of Mr. Ledda to our team is another example of the forward progress our County is making to best serve our citizens. Furthermore, it’s nice having a familiar face and established community leader in such a vital role. We are excited to see what Mr. Ledda can do!”
