Richland County’s Master-in-Equity Court moving Sept. 30

September 16, 2024

Richland County’s Master-in-Equity Court is relocating soon, moving from the downtown Judicial Center to the Richland County Central Court facilities just north of Columbia.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 30, the court’s new location will be in Courtroom 1 at 2500 Decker Blvd., Columbia. Office hours will remain the same: 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Sebrina Sheffield, Master-in-Equity manager for the County, said the move will not affect public services. Staff will continue working during the relocation, and no delays to the public are expected.

The Master-in-Equity Court, a division of Circuit Court, handles non-jury cases over $7,500 in Richland County, providing a relatively quick and inexpensive means of litigation resolution for civil, non-jury matters. Judge Joseph M. Strickland serves as the County’s Master-in-Equity.

A revenue-generating office, the Master-in-Equity Court hosts a monthly foreclosure sale on property. The first such sale at the new Central Court location is set for noon Monday, Oct. 7.

For more information, call the court at 803-576-1900 or visit the County’s website: https://richlandcountysc.gov/Government/Courts-and-Judicial-System/Master-in-Equity.
