Continental Divide Explores Wildlife, People, and the Border Wall

Richland Library announced the opening of its newest art exhibition, “Continental Divide: Wildlife, People, and the Border Wall”, a powerful photographic exploration of the United States-Mexico borderlands. The exhibition features the work of 13 photographers from both the United States and Mexico and will be celebrated with an opening reception on Thursday, September 26th at 5:30 p.m. at Richland Library Main. The reception will include light refreshments, opportunities to meet the artists, and a special screening of the documentary “Ay Mariposa: Butterflies and Border Walls” in the library’s second-level theater.

The Continental Divide exhibit showcases 30 large canvas photo prints that capture the unique land, wildlife, and people living along the nearly 2,000-mile border between the United States and Mexico. The images were taken during a three-and-a-half-week expedition by photographers from the International League of Conservation Photographers, who traveled the borderlands with scientists and filmmakers to document the diverse flora, fauna, and cultures of the region.

Miguel Angel de la Cueva, and other featured photographers, bring the audience into a world that is at once beautiful and fragile, shedding light on the ecological and human impact of constructing a border wall. The exhibit provides a lens through which viewers can appreciate the intricate relationship between wildlife, people, and the landscape, highlighting the vulnerability of these communities amidst ongoing political debates.

Join us in celebrating this thought-provoking exhibit and engage in a dialogue about the dynamic landscape at the heart of borderland communities.
