Studio 2LR attends groundbreaking for the Cecil Williams South Carolina Civil Rights Museum at Railroad Corner in Orangeburg, South Carolina

June 21, 2024

Studio 2LR recently attended the ground-breaking ceremony on June 19th for the redevelopment of a historic downtown corner in Orangeburg, SC known as Railroad Corner. A focal point of the mixed-use redevelopment includes a new 10,000 SF building for the Cecil Williams South Carolina Civil Rights Museum.

Studio 2LR worked with Cecil Williams to bring his vision to life and to showcase his extensive collection of photographs and artifacts illustrating the history of the civil rights movement in South Carolina and beyond. The building design incorporates the historic Boulevard Street façade of the former State Theater and College Soda Shop and recalls original building details, including the marquee signage and canopy structures.
