1,188 Animals adopted during Pick Me! SC

October 9, 2018

More than 1,188 animals have new homes today, after a history-making statewide adoption event: Pick Me! SC. 50 locations, including animal shelters, rescues and Petco stores, combined forces and invited the public to come adopt, and save as many lives as possible October 5 -7.

Sponsored by the Petco Foundation and organized by No Kill South Carolina (NKSC) – most shelters offered “no-fee” or “low-fee” adoptions as part of this lifesaving event. “So many shelters told us they had never seen anything like it,” said the Director of NKSC Abigail Kamleiter. “People were lined up at the doors of our locations across the state.”

Long-Term Impact of Pick Me! SC

Many people who went to adopt this weekend shared that they had never visited their local shelter before the Pick Me! SC weekend. Organizers hope people will continue to see the value that shelters bring to their individual communities. “It really brought communities together to show pride in their area shelters. When people visit these shelters, they now realize they can have a tremendous impact on saving lives,” said Kamleiter.
