Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston welcomes Erin Coakley, Certified Physician Assistant

Todd Schlesinger, MD FAAD, founder and medical director of Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston, announced that that Erin Coakley, PA-C has joined the medical staff of the West Ashley-based skincare practice.

Erin began her career in health sciences by completing her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Biochemistry at Loyola Marymount University. Immediately following graduation, she worked as a research coordinator for clinical trials at Arizona Cancer Center’s Skin Cancer Institute, while concurrently receiving a Graduate Certificate in Public Health at the University of Arizona. After several years in clinical trials, Erin felt a calling to practice clinical medicine and obtained her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Midwestern University in Arizona. While at Midwestern she served on the Arizona State Board, governing Physician Assistants and upon graduating, was granted the Physician Assistant Program Leadership Award. Erin launched her career as a PA working in Emergency Medicine at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland.

Erin began practicing medical and surgical dermatology in in 2012 and has developed a keen interest in the treatment of skin cancer, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, rashes, warts, vitiligo, alopecia, acne, and rosacea. She performs biopsies, surgical excisions, general skin cancer/mole checks, electrodessication and cautery, as well as cryotherapy.

Her professional affiliation include membership in the SDPA (Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants), South Carolina Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, and The American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is currently enrolled in an SDPA Fellowship Program. Erin is passionate about dermatology and strives to provide thorough, comprehensive and accessible care to patients, while also exhibiting an excellent bedside manner.
